Hasegawa 1/72 MV-22 Osprey

August 2, 2020 · in Aviation · · 13 · 1.7K

My build was much like the actual Osprey development. It took much longer than planned and plagued with issues.

This kit is not an easy one as it has a number of sub assemblies that need careful work like the props as well there is a lot of detail that needs to be protected during the sanding/filling phase of building. Added to this is the complex paint scheme which requires a fair amount of masking and the decals which I found to be a headache (especially the sensor decals as you can see in the photos.)

By the time I was finished this model I was just glad I got it done. Completing this kit, I found out why we haven't seen many built. ETA: it is the complex design of the real life vehicle that makes this kit a difficult build, not just the kit itself (kind of like the F-14 Tomcat.)

It does come with a stand and I posed it for flight (with painted crew figures) which does save a fair amount of space (the Osprey is much bigger than I thought.)

If you take your time (especially with the decals) this will make a nice model.

  1. It looks like you beat the beast the way the Marines did - hard work and doggedness. Nice result, Dan.

  2. Looks great, and yes, you don't see one done to often.

  3. I can imagine your patience being tested somehow here, Dan.
You came up with a really nice Osprey, though.

  4. Thanks guys for kind words.

  5. Good job! I work for RR which builds the AE1107C engine in these things. We did the overhauls and repairs in the Oakland facility until shut down in mid-2019. When these things deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, our work load went to about 15-20 a month. They stir up their own cloaking device when they land in dirt. Great for the engine repair business.

  6. Well done, I remember seeing these for the first time at the Av unit in Bahrain, they sound truly odd taxiing in. Nice looking build!

  7. The finished model sure looks like it was worth effort.

  8. The amount of time you spent on this Osprey does really show a good result.
    Great paint job.

  9. I can imagine the difficulties. Great job and a beautiful finished model.

  10. Came out looking great! Nicely done.

  11. Thanks again everyone!
