Scammel Pioneer Recovery Tractor

August 20, 2020 · in Armor · · 5 · 1.8K

Hi,
Although I am a model builder I use the good old Meccano System from which to build my models. My Father was an Officer in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers during and after WWII and he designed the alternative stowage rack for carrying the Pioneer's spare wheel. In operational use of the vehicle the spare wheel on its usual rear carrier could be a problem so on top of the stowage lockers it went. Notice in the first image the use of a gun plank and the towing aid in use as a makeshift davit.
The black and white images where all taken in WWII Europe, somewhere !.

I hope this information is of use to some of you.

Best Regards, John R Hornsby.

  2. A unique build, Reminds me of the old erecter sets from years ago. I'm familiar with the Scammel because of the old Matchbox die cast vehicle.
