1/48 Rhodesian Air Force aircraft

September 17, 2020 · in Aviation · · 9 · 2.7K

This is my collection of aircraft as used by the Southern Rhodesian Air Force and the Rhodesian Air Force. I cannot remember which kit is what make.
All decals were home made.
There are mods done to the Riems Cessna 337, the 2 x Alouette III's (the one with the MG151-20mm cannon was called the 'K' Car and the one with 2x .303 Browings was the 'G'Car.), and to the Bell 205 helicopter.
These models are now housed at the Rhodesian Forces Collection in the RAFA club, Bedford, UK.

  1. Nice collection - some interesting schemes in there!

  2. Nice looking bunch. The Harvard is my favorite

  3. Nice collection with stuff you don't see every day. The Hurricane looks to be a Hasegawa kit.

  4. Very nice! I like the Cessna.

  5. That's a great collection, Phillip.
    Congratulations!

  6. Great collection, Phillip.
My preference goes to the Hurricane.

  7. Excellent Phillip, these are all great, I've got the Alo III on the bench at the moment - going to be a K Car as well. Also have the Canberra in the stash thats going to be Rhodesian. Thanks for the inspiration.

    • Many thanks for the comment. Reference building a Rhodesian Canberra can I ask as to what period you intend to do it for as the RhAF painted theirs several different schemes whilst they had them. They started in overall silver, then brown/green upper with a sky underneath then finally brown/green upper and brown underneath. Also they stopped carrying any external markings around mid 1970's. They also carried different serial numbers in different periods. Also note that certain serial numbers carried a Rhodesian mod - 4 rocket rails mounted under the cockpit in front of the front undercarriage bay. A good book to see all of the info is 'Canberra in Southern African Service' by Michael Hamence & Winston Brent. Pic of book cover attached.
