September 9, 2020 · in Aviation · · 11 · 1.3K

I have built quite a few 362nd FG 's and this one is one of my favourites.

Decals from EagleCals with usual Ultracast seat & wheels.

Paints are / Mr Hobby acrylics, Tamiya AS12, Alclad, Future for gloss & Xtracrylix flat coats.

Happy Modelling
Darren

  1. Very nice result. You've got a really nice Thunderbolt collection,

I have a question for you and others: why do we who build Tamiya P-47s all pose them with the flaps down? I ask because the one criticism I've gotten of the Tamiya P-47s I have done came from a P-47 pilot who told me "The rule is, you pull the flaps up as soon as you are permanently on the ground from landing, because you don't want to damage them with stuff the wheels kick up."

    • I do both, I am well aware of the fact now that most P-47's parked with flaps up. I tend to build all my latest P-47's with flaps up - a lot of my P-47's I have built last 15 years or so, if I still have them, have been tidied up, re photographed and that is why a lot will be flaps down, because I didn't know better...

  2. Tom, your query is well placed. I built mine with flaps down since it looked so different, and without the knowledge of your P-47 pilot. Excellent point.

  3. Excellent job on this one as well, Darren.
    A big 'like'.

  4. And the hits keep coming! Another beauty.

  5. Clean and crisp with super finish, Darren. Fine work all around.

  6. I can't resist, a beauty of a Jug!

  7. The hits keep on coming!

  8. Well Executed! I like the attention to detail, and thanks for listing the paints in the build.

  9. The flap thing ...is that a marketing angle to separate Tamiya from Hasegawa,Academy and Monogram kits?

The same holds true for modeling Spitfires. Having the flaps down would get a pilot fined. Seeing photos of Spitfires with there flaps down is rare. So when a kit manufacture makes the option for flaps being up or down are they pandering to the nativity of the buyer or our they offering artistic freedom? Creating historical falsehoods with gimmicks?

  10. Darren, some strong work with the Tamiya P-47. Two thumbs up.
