Curtiss F11C-2 Goshawk

September 3, 2020 · in Aviation · · 21 · 3.2K

This is the kit from 1968 in scale. Even though it is over fifty years old the kit still compares well to recent releases, featuring some very nice surface detail and clever engineering which ensures correct alignment and easy construction. I dressed this one up with a resin cockpit from Starfighter Decals, and also used their sheet 72-107 for the markings. The aircraft is BuNo 9363 assigned to VF-1B “Tophatters” aboard the USS Saratoga (CV-3) in 1933.

For anyone interested, there is a short build post here: https://inchhighguy.wordpress.com/2020/07/31/monogram-curtiss-f11c-2-goshawk-build/

  1. You created a masterpiece out of this "oldie but goodie" kit, Jeff!
    I like it a lot!

  2. Just checked out your build post Jeff, nicely done. The addition of the resin cockpit is a real plus for this oldie but goodie. I've also used Starfighter decals on some of my builds and I really liked the way they performed.

  3. Really nice build! I really think Monogram set the standard in aircraft kits for everyone to follow, there was a point where even the mighty Tamiya was playing catch up to them.

  4. This is a wonderful model of a "yellow wing", love it!
You did a very good job with rigging, which is an essential component for a biplane model.

  5. Love those yellow wing biplanes. Outstanding job on this kit, it's gotta be tiny! Beautiful!

  6. A real eye-catcher from a golden age. Big Like.

  7. A real beauty! Love everything you did with this kit.

  8. It's great to see this built, nice! The rigging must have been tedious.

  9. Big Like on this. You're so right about the innate quality of the kit, and the aftermarket from Starfighter really does set things. You can put the P-6E and the F4B-4 on the same list.

    Really nice result here.

  10. Wow, amazing what can be done with an old kit. I remeber building it in the late 70s. Smashing details!

  11. Nice colorful build.
Rigging also looks great on your build.
You brought this old kit to life.

  12. Monogram have always made excellent kits and you have turned this into an absolute gem.

  13. I will repeat our friend @Spiros Pendedekas:
"You created a masterpiece out of this “oldie but goodie” kit, Jeff!"

  14. This is a really tiny model, Jeff (@inchhigh), and you have brought out the best in this old kit. Rigging this model must have been fun. :o)

  15. Pretty little thing Jeff, nicely done.

  16. Thanks for all the kind words, much appreciated!

  17. 🙂 ... Greetings ... 🙂 :
This is really a beautiful work build of the classic Monogram Goshawk Jeff.
The rigging alone set's this one apart. Very attractive paint work, well applied.
    Always love those Monogram kits.
