Best End of the Year Gift Ever

October 7, 2020 · in Aviation · · 16 · 1.8K

In a 30+ year teaching career (and still going in this crazy 2020) I spent 17 of them in 6th grade. At the end of the year many students will often give a token of appreciation such as gift cards, mugs, and such to their teachers. About 18 years ago I received the best end of the year gift ever: the Fairey ! Talk about being astonished! After such a gift I felt compelled to get the photo-etch set in order to do justice to the kit.

This one still holds a place of pride in my collection.

  2. An astonishing build, Scott.
Unbelievable how much load this plane could handle.

  3. Very nice! You know, I have always avoided the Stringbag due to the rigging involved, but after doing the Fi-167 (and those double runs), I'm starting to think I need to add a Swordfish to my stash! This post just reminded me I don't have one of WWII's most iconic naval planes in my collection1

  4. What a great gift. Sure beats an apple. Outstanding build!

  5. That's a fantastic model of a kit I love, Scott!
It's really nice you got it as a gift in such manner.
You did a great job on this.

  6. Quite a very nice build. Almost makes me want to take mine off the shelf and build it.

  7. 🙂 ... Greetings ... 🙂 :
This one is just full of gloriousness every which way you see it Scott.
The cabin work and the extra added detail just stand out.
The rigging is well done and the paint work well applied.
Have the students seen this work?
Thank you for sharing the images.

    • Wow! That’s quite the compliment! Thanks! I do share my model builds with my students every now and then. I also had an after school model building club going for a while. A few of those students took up the hobby.
