Junk Yard Details

October 8, 2020 · in Diorama · · 23 · 2K

Been testing out more weathering techniques in combination with placements. Trying to make smaller diorama compositions but still trying to maintain, an overall cohesive look. Will be grinding the threads of the tyres to add more wear and tear, and fixing the sink holes on the container. But so far I think it looks good. I've posted both external and internal photos. Hope you guys like it, so far.

  1. Hi Charles!
This Ford cannot be a model; it is the real thing!
Congratulations, once more, my friend, for the meticulous attention to detail, in order to present us a diorama exactly like it is in reality!

  3. Wauw! That's the real stuff!
Thank you for having a look at your diorama Charles!
I like your weathering at those tyres and the cracked windshield.

  4. The King of rust strikes again! How did you do the van's wind shield? Is it better to burn out then it is to rust.

  5. Excellent and very inspiring work!

  6. Although I'm more into aircraft, I have to admit that this is looking incredibly realistic.
    Just awesome, Charles.

  7. Always love your stuff. And you do have a good point - there needs to be some tread reduction on those old tires to really make 'em fit! All that paint work - rust, weathering, etc. - is so phenomenal.

  8. You are truly The Godfather of Grunge! Your eye for detail astounds me! And you are in a class of your own.

  9. Charles, @tiking

I have spent years working as a mechanic and have been around this kind of stuff that you are building for as long as I can remember. Even as a kid I worked on things... I can tell you from first hand experience that you have this "look" down to a science ! Your builds look so realistic, they could easily be mistaken for the real thing. I noticed that you even have the "cut marks" showing in the edge of the metal dumpster from an acetylene torch. Your bulldozer return rollers also look extremely realistic, as does the broken van windshield. I have broken out more of these windshields than I care to remember, when working as a firefighter and we extricated people that were trapped inside their wrecked cars and trucks... I don't know how you do it, but keep it up... Very well done my friend.

I pressed the liked button too, and I give you two thumbs up... (only because I don't have three thumbs).

    • Louis Gardner I am very honored by your professional outlook on my build.. Thank you kindly. Your professional view has uplifted my enthusiasm ever so much. I appreciate it and will continue with your positive assessment in mind. Thank you again.

  10. More amazing reality from Charles King. The realism of this diorama, from the smallest detail to the overall, is just incredible. Those "interior" photos look like the real thing.

I'm sorry I could only press "Liked" once.

  11. 🙂 ... Greetings ... 🙂 :
As soon as I saw the headline picture, I knew it was from you.
Great start to this diorama, it really is a total wind up in every you look at it.
Thanks for sharing these pictures Charles.

  12. Excellent work, you had me convinced at the windshield ! Then you explain how it was done, thank you.
