1/72 Airfix Valiant BK.Mk1

December 3, 2020 · in Aviation · · 10 · 2.1K

Another straight OOB build, using the kit decals which performed well. I pre-shaded the model with a dark grey, and then airbrushed Revell SM301 semi-gloss white in thin coats gradually until I got the desired fade effect. Now I think that a couple of more white coats would have produced a more subtle effect and would have been more realistic!

  1. Looks good! Thanks for the painting tip. You've found the solution for a large white airplane. I'll put it to use with mine.

  2. Looks good to me as well, Gordon!
    Great painting tip indeed!
I confess I have the Mach-2 offering in my stash...

  3. You've made my day Gordon. The V-bombers are some of my favourite bombers of the Cold War. Your Valiant looks splendid in its white anti-flash scheme. I have the Airfix Valiant and Victor in the stash. Can't wait for Airfix to release the new tooled Avro Vulcan.

  4. A beautiful V-bomber, Gordon.
Currently using this pre-shade technique as well.
You did very well in getting it right to my opinion.

  5. Nice job. I wish they’d re-release that one.

  6. Very nice build Gordon.
I find white is always a challenge - the more coats the better the white but as you put more coats the recessed lines start to disappear.

  7. Love the V-bombers, and this one seems to be the one least built, so such a pleasure to see it! Looks great.

  8. Thank you everyone for your very nice comments! I have added a couple of pictures (with the Valiant looking like Shrek!) during the final stages of painting.

  9. There's some thing about these cold war British bombers, looks great!

  10. Beautiful looking V bomber. White like black is hard to make look realistic and you done a great job. Starting with grey and working back to white is a great idea.
