1/72 Amodel Mil Mi-6 Early Version

December 2, 2020 · in Aviation · · 10 · 3K

Another not so easy kit, this time from . As usual the fuselage of such a large subject is divided in three pieces lengthwise, and the Amodel instructions tell you to assemble the halves together then assemble the 3 sections to each other. I decided to assemble the left and right halves together first, then join the two halves together. Not an easy task, but it's better to fill and sand the seams lengthwise than across the fuselage. I am one that usually like open doors on my models but on this I made an exception. Getting the doors and the ramps in position was not easy and I not 100% happy with the result. The completed model dwarfs all the other helos I have built so far including a Sea Stallion and Chinook.

  1. Looks terrific! I trust your word on its size, imagine it in 1/48! One of the best Rotor models I’ve seen made in 1/72

  2. That is one big chopper. Huge AModel with the fuselage in six pieces and not one visible seam. Very well done.

  3. very nice, makes me want to repaint mine which is all gray.
With more time expect prop. blade sagging and mine broke where blade begins.
I used tiny nails as armature.

If you have room for Mi-6, then nothing is stopping you to buy Mi-12, also Amodel.
Double the engine, double the width, double the fun, triple the dust.

  4. Looks great! Love the paint and finish work - you have great finishing skills. Well done.

  5. Another excellent result of a definitely difficult kit, Gordon!
    The completed model looks stunning!
    Congratulations!

  6. Very well done! I feel your pain because I built that kit earlier in the year and it was a complete nightmare. Nothing fit and the parts were hideously molded. I posted pictures of it here in imodeler a few months ago. AK Interactive is publishing it in an upcoming weathering book.

  7. Great work on what looks like a very challenging kit.

  8. Nicely done Gordon, looks good and different to my over all green version !

  9. Another great build, Gordon.
That open cargo door shows how big this helicopter really is.
