Airfix Skyhawk

December 31, 2020 · in Aviation · · 10 · 2.4K

My penultimate build for 2020 is the new tool . It's not my best work but, it's a decent 3 footer. The panel lines on top of the fuselage were very soft so I rescribed them. I tried shading panel lines with water colors which worked well. The water colors didn't work so great on the landing gear struts. And, you can clearly see I missed wiping some of the paint away along the wing roots. And, I left the paint too thick on the tail. And... well, you get the drift.

I am definitely going to tackle another one of these so I can redeem myself.

  1. Nice Scooter indeed, Scott!

  2. Nice job on the kit! I built the same one about a year ago. I was surprised by the amount of fun I had building and painting the model. For such a cheap kit, it offers a lot of bang for the buck when comparing fun versus cost. I ended up spending more money on paint than on the kit itself. Still, if I add up the cost of the kit, the paint and the base, the total is still a hell of a lot cheaper than most kits I buy 😉

I like what you did. I built mine with the same markings. Though in a moment of brainfart, I forgot to add the blue tip to the tail. Easy fix, just need to get around to doing it. Here's mine: https://imodeler.com/2020/07/airfix-1-72-a-4b-skyhawk-va-15-valions-uss-intrepid-tonkin-gulf-1967-2/

  3. Very nice, Scott.
    Best wishes.

  4. Nicely done, don't worry about where you didn't wipe, the Plane Captain just missed a few spots during his daily wipe down!

  5. Nice early Skyhawk!

  6. The Skyhawk is a cool plane especially in those Navy colors. Looks cool despite the troubles.

  7. Thanks for the kind words everyone.

  8. All in all, and handsome little Scooter!
