COVID No. 13. AlleyCat CAC Boomerang

December 30, 2020 · in Aviation · · 6 · 2.3K

My final covid build for 2020?. This a kit. Overall I was pleased when it was completed. The was a panic development fighter from the Wirraway by the Aussies at the beginning of the war. It did not have much air to air action, but it was a very good air support plane. It had good maneuverability which was important when helping those on the ground that needed the as much aid as possible in very difficult terrain. This kit lineage began with Montex and was acquired by AlleyCat with additional parts/corrections done. It features nicely done vacform canopy, alternate exhausts for -12/ -13-19 variants, complete interior, cannons, nicely done engine, landing gear, and a nicely done decal sheet. Instructions are complete and give details for different color schemes . There was some slight miss fitting of the fuselage halves, but easily dealt with. The biggest problem for me was that the cockpit tubing sections were too soft from incomplete cure issue. I ended up remaking sections of the tubing for the interior. Due to my problem with getting this done correctly, the fit of the complete unit took some refit to get it into the fuselage halves. The PE included in the kit helps the detailing of the interior. The rest of the build-went fairly well from here, but sizing and fitting the canopy took some effort- just because the quarter light cutouts make it a tight fit. Added wiring to the engine, and then fit engine and cowling to the fuselage. AK, Tamiya, and MM paints were used. Added a far amount of bleaching effect from sun and weather. Chalk/Future mix for liquids staining and oils also. Burnished- in chalks for gun stain and engine exhaust. This is not one for a novice- takes skills. Nice addition for the collection overall.

  1. Wow! That’s really impressive. You are to be commended. Large scale resin projects are not for the faint of heart.

  2. Excellent result. The Boomerang was maligned by many people but was in fact ideal for the narrow and deep mountain valleys in New Guinea where it excelled.

  3. This is some really great work, Steve, and a super result.

  4. Echoing above Gents comments, Steve, this is a super result of a definitively difficult kit.
I love the Boomerang, you made an excellent representation of it!

  5. Very nice build, Steve.

  6. A lovely Boomerang! I really like the more rare subjects, and you again did justice to this one.
