Final One for 2020
My 16th and final completed kit of 2020 is this conversion of an Eduard Spitfire Mk. I to a Mk. II. I used EagleCals decals, and an Ultracast Rotol prop and Coffman starter for this easy conversion. The markings are for Bill Dunn, the first Eagle Squadron ace.
Of all the Spitfire kits I've done from all the manufacturers in scales from 1/72 to 1/24, this kit from Eduard looks to my eyes to the most “right looking” of all. Can't wait to make another! (Besides, I have a lot of decals I need to use up, lol.)

Very nice. It turns out Bill Dunn's airplane is an option in the new limited edition release of the Spitfire IIa/IIb.
When Xtradecal did this in 1/32, they came up with the airplane still having the Sky undersides, with the "Mixed Grey" upper replacing Dark Earth. That seemed reasonable to me, given that painting the underside of an airplane "in the field" isn't easy (from experience) and the "overnight job" they were supposed to do. It would also make sense because I was told by ES guys I knew that when 71 got their Spitfire IIs, they knew they were in line for Spitfire Vs the next month, which they indeed got.
None of that is a complaint about your really excellent model. You're absolutely right about how good the Eduard Spitfires are.
Thanks, Tom. I went with the mixed grey and medium sea grey on this one. I debated on the yellow i.d. strips on the wings. It’s an interesting transitional scheme for sure. One thing I know for sure, more Eduard Spitfires are in the stash and on the docket.
