Martian War Machine, 1953. 1/48 Pegasus, imodeler at the movies.

December 17, 2020 · in Sci-fi · · 15 · 2.4K

This is 's , from the 1953 movie War of the Worlds. A very simple kit to build, I included a bit of a diorama also. If I had the skill set would have wired the machined. David Leigh-Smith started this group build over a year ago., he hasn't been on the site for awhile now, hopefully all is well with him. With this build, I'm down to one kit in the stash, going forward I think I'll try to build as I buy . For the kit I used Testors rattle can copper, the torched tank is an old snaptite kit. The base is styrofoam with a layer of quick set cement.

  1. David's work has him on the front lines of dealing with Covid-19 in the UK.

Cool model, I remember being scared when they were hiding in the barn and the "recon snake" came inside looking for them.

  2. Scary machine! I like the shadows of the human bodies. Zap!

  3. Fantastic, Robert! I’m sure David is watching!

“It seems to me now almost incredibly wonderful that, with that swift fate hanging over us, men could go about their petty concerns as they did.”

(Repost from the WIP that popped up in my email earlier!)

  4. Way Cool Robert. From one of my favorite movies. I think we should have been made with suction cups at the end of our fingers. (from the final scene).
OK at least two fingers for picking up plastic bits.
    Well presented.

  5. I love it, Robert!
    Amazing work.
    I must build a sci-fi someday...

  6. The copper finish of the Martian machine is just awesome! It could star on a remake if the original film

  7. Nice one sir ?

  8. Nicely Done! This makes me want to re-watch the movie.

  9. Hi Robert. Very cool and scary looking model !
I read most of H.G. Wells’ work when I was younger. The original movie scared the he’ll out of me but led to discourse over other planets’ habitability.
Wells was in the first Major train wreck In History. It profoundly changed him and he started writing science inquisitive novels !
Maybe Covid will bring out our best work.

  10. Robert, @roofrat
I just noticed your build journal posted in the Imodler at the Movies section... I'm sure that our dear friend David LS is watching, and that right now he is smiling from ear to ear... As am I ! This is a great looking build, and I remember watching the scene very well where the "Aliens" melted the tanks... yet for some strange reason, years later I went on to serve in real life Army tanks in spite of this.

I pressed the liked button too, because that copper finish looks awesome just by itself... Well done buddy, and I hope you have a Merry Christmas. 🙂
