First two builds of 2021

January 7, 2021 · in Aviation · 9 · 2.1K

The Tiger and the Skyray are my first two builds of 2021. Originally started back in December, these two kits were built almost simultaneously. They also hold the distinction of being the second and third kits completed in my new model building room since I moved recently. The first was Star Wars Y wing finished 10 minutes before the new year.

  1. Good looking start of the year, Amari.

  2. Happy new year, Amari, good start to 2021, your new modelling room looks very clean...

  3. Nice builds, Amari!
I see your dedicated hobby room running full steam ahead! Great!
I am also jealous: I want to build my Tamiya Skyray too!

  4. Very nice workm Amari. I particularly like the Ford - I used to see those planes of that squadron do scrambles at North Island NAS. They were out of sight in a minute.

A modeling tip for you: check your left main wheel on the model. Look at it from in front. Easy-peasy to fix. Here's a "modeling secret" (BTW- there are no modeling secrets): A good thing to do whenever you are attaching things is look at it from several angles - you can see it from three and it looks fine, then look from number four and "uh-oh!" but right when you can adjust it without problem.

  5. Hi Amari...Just for clarification..is the Tiger 1/48 and the Skyray 1/72..or have I got it backwards. And which brand is the Tiger. I think the camo looks fantastic so could you elaborate how you created that effect. Thanks for sharing.

    • Thank you David Adams @adamcda13, you are correct about the scales. The Tiger is Tamiya. As for the camo, I used a medium sized brush to add the Vallejo German Camoflage Beige. After that dried, I used a tamiya fine brush to hand paint the lines. The orange-ish color comes from highly diluted acrylic colors.

  6. πŸ™‚ ... Greetings ... πŸ™‚ :

Looking forward to more of your work Amari.
