AMT Bulldozer 1/25

February 16, 2021 · in Automotive · · 17 · 6.4K

This is the kit that was originally titled " D8H" but has been re-released as the generic "construction ." It's a great kit, very detailed, and very much capable of even more scratch-building detail. I limited myself to adding hydraulic lines to the main cylinders, lines behind the dashboard, and lines connecting the 'dozer to the ripper attachment. Shortcomings of the kit would be the tracks, which are individual links but not very accurate, no numbers on the parts, and of course, no actual Caterpillar decals.

I painted mine Implement Yellow in a rattle can, then shaded the upper surfaces with Vallejo Air Yellow for fading affect. The bare metal surfaces are Testers Rubber, with Testers Rust in spots. Tamiya Tan was used for the dirt color - the dirt being made of Tamiya body putty and dried play-doh under the treads.

It's not exactly a tractor, but is a nice addition to my tractor collection. I hope you enjoy it.

  1. Very nice Robert and love the weathering. At the moment I'm breaking in on a D-10T

  2. Really good looking dozer. I didn't realize that this AMT kit built up so nicely as you have shown. Perfect wear and tear details and those hydraulic lines really make it.

  3. Looks great, Robert, the extra details and the weathering really make it. Could be the start of a Vanishing Point diorama. Definitely liked.

  4. Your machines are all very well done. I wish they made more of these kits. Keep em coming

  5. A beautiful result, Robert!
Great construction, painting and, of course, weathering!
    Nice improvements, too!
I might assume that AMT did not provide CAT decals, due to "under license" issues from the CAT company?

  6. Very nice and thanks for the heads-up related to the choice of paint. Looks great!

  7. Very nice i used to spend hours just watching dozers working in my neighbourhood 🙂

  8. Looks great! Excellent weathering.

  10. Nice job. I have had this kit in my stash for a while now. Still figuring out what to do with it.
