P51-D Mustang ‘Donald’ 4th Fighter Group
Hi everybody,
Today was a sunny day, so I decided to take few pictures of my ‘old' models. The model is the Royal Class Mustang from Eduard on 1/48 scale. I build this model out from the box.
This plane was flown by Captain Donald R. Emerson (who named his ship by his first name) who crashed and KIA on the Christmas day of 1944. He was 21 yo.
The Eduard kit was not a piece of cake to build, but still I am glad of the result. The major difficulties encountered were the canopy which could not fit in the closed position and the decals which I found very thins which needed .

Good to know you got the decals to work. I have the Royal Class kit too. To be honest all these new-age P-51 kits excite me for their gold mines of spare parts and decals, to use on older kits. The new kits themselves are nice too of course but they're like the gift that keeps on giving. Very nice work on this one! Love the no-nonsense look of the 4th FG.

Thanks for the comment John. I suggest if you build a model with different scheme (such as D-day marking) to purchase better quality decal. On my model both set the USAAF star are gone on the fuselage. And still you can see trough. Good luck with your project!

Since you still have another Mustang to do with that Royal Class boxing, if you read my review of building the model, there are two things you can do which will get rid of 90% of the fiddly part of assembly - it's a simple change in which gets attached to what
I don't what it is, but you are right about the difficulty of getting the Eduard canopies to fit closed. However, they do fit correctly open, which no other P-51 kit does with the kit-supplied canopy.
Thank you Tom for your comment and advices. For the second model I plan to build with the open canopy so less struggling to fit if on the fuselage.
