Tamiya 1/35 Panzer II and more......

March 12, 2021 · in Armor · 8 · 2.3K

I grabbed this $13 Tamiya kit off the shelf intending it to be a weekend build. It turned into a week full of evenings building and experimenting with preshading, Tamiya putty, Vallejo pigments and oil washes. It's amazing the difference you get with a more expensive kit vs this level, but this was my opportunity to practice and try some new techniques. And I did not have a Panzer II on my shelf. I've also include pics of some prior builds, a Panzerspahwagen, an early war Panzer 38t, and a Hetzer (I really like Hetzers).

Inexpensive kits can be fun too!

  1. I just love these little 1/35 Tamiya kits, lotsa fun in a little box. The big stuff is impressive of course but I tend to gravitate toward the smaller stuff too. When married it was also much easier to get these past the Wife and into the stash! Stuff it into the gaps and it looks like it was always there.
Thanks for giving us a glimpse of the other vehicles too, all really nice stuff David. When finished like this, with careful detail painting etc., they don't look cheap at all.

  2. Very nice collection...I've got a soft spot for the oldies also!

  3. Lovely job, David.
And, yep, inexpensive kits can be fun!

  4. Looks great! Very nice collection!

  5. Nice work on all of them!

  6. The Tamiya classics still build great! Nicely done!

  7. Looks good David, and having fun is what this hobby is all about.

  8. All are very nice. I am working on the same kit making up the F variant. I hope it turns out as well as yours.
