1/48 Hasegawa Ki-100 - I ko

April 14, 2021 · in Aviation · · 8 · 1.8K

Here is my build of the Ki-100_1 ko that I completed late last summer. there were some issues with the fit of the gun troughs and front cowl ring, but nothing that couldn't be solved be slight shimming and lots of dry fitting. the Plane was primed with Mr Surfacer 1500, then a coat of MR Color GX2 was applied to the undersides in prep for the AK Xtreme Metal (my first NMF). Looking back I'm not too happy with the result, but it was a good first attempt. I black based with various shades and then painted the upper sides with AK RC330 (Japanese Olive drab/brown) the paint was heavily chipped and abraded and then weathered with oils.

All markings were painted with self made masks and Oramask 813 film. Hope you like it. all of my WIP builds are in the .

  1. I think you are too strict with yourself, my friend @wkubacki : your Ki-100 looks wondeful, NMF attempt included!
Congratulations on yet another excellent build!

  2. Great job with the weathering and masked insignia and the NMF.
I can't see any decal film...because there is no decal film! Impressive work Woody.

  3. A truly beautiful build, Woody.
You can absolutely be proud of this build.
I really like the chipping a lot.
What a nice idea to use Post-Its to masks the various panels, noted in my notebook.

Thanks for the compliments. I have moved from AK Xtreme Metal to Mr Color Super Metallics for better durability against handling and masking, as well as the ability to use oils directly over top of them (Super Metallics being lacquers, AK being enamel). the AK Xtreme Metal does spray very nicely and has a wide array of colours, so I will use them when possible (just not exterior of an aircraft).

Post it's are great, low tack and can be re-used. As long as you are careful with your spray direction you shouldn't have any overspray.

  5. Very nice Ki-100. Those sprayed on markings look great. Lovely model of a great Japanese fighter.

  6. Very nice work with the masks, I also concur that overall your KI-100 captures the plane really well.

  7. Really nice work and a very realistic result.

  8. That looks great! Well done.
