1/48 Tamiya A6M3 Model 32 Hamp

April 26, 2021 · in Aviation · · 12 · 2.2K

I think this is my fourth build for The Empire of Japan Group. Nice kit for being so old but it does lack the detail of the newer kits. I decided to do the field applied paint scheme to change it up a bit and it was a lot of fun. Painted with and Gunz paints. No decals were used. Chipped with the hairspray technique. Also used oils for weathering. I took photos outside and indoors (color changes so drastically) I think the outdoor photos look the most realistic. thanks

  1. Beautiful modelling, Jeremy. You've done this old kit proud, not that there was anything seriously wrong with it, and it has flourished under your expert hand. The effective appearance of your greens bears close study, and your cockpit work is also outstanding. Congratulations on getting back into the swing of things so splendidly!

  2. Beautiful build, Jeremy. @jmillan
That hairspray technique worked very well.
Something that I still want to try.
How did you apply the serial number, did you create masks?

  3. Very nice. Hairspray is tricky to pull off and you did it well

  4. Beautiful paint work and chipping - well done!

  5. Fading and chipping is terrific, Jeremy (@jmillan). I have just started using oils for the weathering on my models and really like it.

  6. Congratulations my friend @jmillan on this wonderful build!

You tackled this great, older kit with excellency, the result being very realistic and really adorable. Loved the oils weathering and the fact that you used no decals.

I would like to sincerely thank you for adding yet another fantastic model to our beloved and very successful, ever growing Empire if Japan GB.

Please do not hesitate to add yet another entry there: possibilities are limitless!

  7. Thanks for all the nice comments guys!

  8. Great work on the paint wear, Jeremy. I haven't tried the hairsrpray method. For some reason I thought it only worked with enamels but you obviously got excellent results with Gunze and Tamiya paints. This is definitely one case where sunlit photography has very good qualities in bringing out the weathering and otherwise nice finish.

  9. Beauty! I cant say anything that hasn't been said before. Your build have that clean dirty look to them that makes them really stand out.

  10. Great result, the weathering and the outdoor photographs are terrific, definitely liked.
