Fujimi Spitfire Mk. Vb 1/48 scale

April 21, 2021 · in Aviation · · 14 · 2.2K

I hope this is okay to post a build I made many years ago. This was built in 1990, my last build until I recently got back into building kits again. This is 's 1/48th scale Spitfire Mk. Vb...The box will say 1/48th but believe me, this is 1/50th scale! When these kits first came out, an electric motor can be added to make the propeller spin. When I built this kit this was the second time building it but on this build I wanted to do a few corrections. I replaced the carburetor inlet by cutting it off from the Monogram Spitfire Mk. IX, replaced the exhaust stacks, took them from a Airfix Spitfire Mk V...I had to shave them down to make it fit for this kit. The spinner and propellers were taken from an Airfix 1/48 Hurricane Mk. I. I took the De Havilland props/spinner and they had to be sanded down to match the 1/50th scale of the Fujimi's kit. The rest is straight from the kit, I did had to block out both radiators under the wings. Build up the cockpit and the decals came from different sources. I do remember this being a fun build and did become one of my favorite builds.

    Modifications are well done.

  4. Love it, Bob! A beautifully done spitfire!
Has held on very well through all these years!

  5. Looks like a good save on an old kit.

    • Thanks, I felt the kit looked good enough to do some kit bashing to see if it would help the overall looks. When done I was pretty happy with it.

  6. A nice clean build of an old kit! Well done.

  7. Nice looking Spitfire. Great builds are timeless!
I think I have that kit somewhere in my stash with other 1/50 Fujimi's.
Last year I completed a Fujimi FW190 which was boxed as 1/48 scale but I found out the hard way when I applied 1/48th scale decals and they were too big.

    • This build had similar issues from the decals and they came from the kit. I left it as is but the serial numbers does look a bit bigger than it should.
