Helicopters return home.

June 21, 2021 · in Aviation · 6 · 1.7K

The story begins 6 years ago.
I was asked to supply a group of Vietnam era helicopters to an Aviation museum for a 40th anniversary for the ending of the Vietnam War.
This was to be a two year commitment.

I compiled the following Helicopters.
3 - UH-1B
1 - UH -1C
2 - UH - 1D
1 - UH -1F
1 - UH -1H
1 - CH-34 D
1 - CH -37A
1 - CH -47D
1 - AH - 1G
1 - OH - 6A
1 - OH -13S
1 - OH -58A
1 - SH - 3A
Not shown is the CH -54A, AH - 1J (don't have pictures)
Fast forward two years.
The display was well received by all visitors.
They asked if I could do another year, yes, another year, yes, another year, yes.
But the covid hit. The museum did not open last year.
They asked this year if I would like to have them on permeant display.
I kindly refused. I really thought they should come home.
The person whom I have been dealing with is moving out of state.
I do have another set of models out to a Veterans Museum for a Korean War display.
It was a two year commitment, but I am not counting last year, no one could get in to see the display.
Thank you for looking in.
Frank

  3. Impressive, think about the wind gusts these machines would cause in case they were starting up all at once!

  6. Hello Blaine,
Impressive line up. Thanks for sharing. You must have a one track "rotor" mind. Much appreciated, because you don't go of track to far.
    Regards, Dirk
