My first Model CarHonda RA272

June 9, 2021 · in Automotive · · 9 · 2.1K

This is the first car model that I ever build.

During all my years of scale modelling (30+), I never thought on build a car. But like with anything else one day I got inspired by the amazing work of a fellow modeller. I loved what I saw and immediately thought that maybe I could try and give it a go. Probably the most intimidating thing about modelling cars is the super gloss and slick finishes, which is completely different to what I usually do. Also, I was always put off by the endless amount of aftermarket details that make car modelling quite expensive and difficult to research.

So I decided to start with something relatively "simple". To me, the sixties racing has the most beautiful cars of all eras so I pick up this kit of the winner of the Mexican Grand Prix of 1965. The kit is quite old and it shows its age but is a strong base to add extra detail. I've added all hoses and connectors in the engines as well as some extra scratch detail at the nose area, wheels and windscreen.

The build went so smoothly and was such enjoyable that I will more likely do other models, So I hope you guys like it!.

  1. You picked a classic kit for your first car model, and you've made a first class job of it, definitely liked. Personally, I'm not a fan of a "super gloss" finish as it's rarely to scale.

  2. Nicely done Jorge, well detailed, looks good.

  3. Great choice for a first car model. Nicely done.

  4. Jorge beautiful work, looks great!

  5. Great result. I too think the 60s Formula One racers are the best looking; the modern ones may be more efficient, but they have no "soul."

  6. Excellent model, Jorge!
I too believe the 60s F1 cars were most aesthetic!

  7. Wow! That is amazing work Jorge! Heck, I'm so "seasoned" (er, make that old) that I actually remember when Honda introduced that racer, with Richie Ginther as pilot. I even had a toy version of the racer that may still be around somewhere. Great GP car that you've done here, with a wonderful history behind it as well. 🙂

  8. Nice job on a really cool car, Jorge (@jark). This F1 is from my favorite era of racing cars. I used to watch movies like Grand Prix over and over again. Well Done.
