Not 1, But 2 Aviation Usk 1/72 Ki-10 Perrys

July 31, 2021 · in Photo Collections · · 19 · 2K

Aviation Usk was a short run maker in Usk, Nebraska. Their boxes were colorful and they always included a candy treat inside and a short note. Just like Rareplanes and other vacu-form makers they made kits of unusual subjects. I have no clue how I ended up with it. So built it. Someone else sent me another and I built that one too.

I did not know a thing about this aircraft's history and now I know just a little bit more. The parts are reminiscent of early MPM kits with a slightly grainy feel to them. I promptly lost the windshields, but making a replacement was easy. With just a bit of care in building the kits builds up into a nice representation of . The decals were thin and I lost one on the light grey version.

  1. Nice paid of Perry's, David!
Really nice job on those limited run beauties!

  2. Production-quality-wise, those kits make the very early MPM kits look like modern Tamiya!

You are a glutton for punishment, David. Amazing result with these.

  3. They are little gems.

  4. Every kit wants to be built. Nicely done!

  5. Nice work, I’ve got this one and a couple other Usk kits. I always liked their choice of subjects.

  6. Beautiful builds, David.
You did great on those tiny Perry's, especially in 1/72

  7. Great work on these, David. Aviation Usk was a great mail order store, pre internet. The original owner was a gentleman named Tom Frisk and they were based in Washington state. I bought a lot of cool stuff from him. He stocked many unique decal sheets and exotic kits. He did a monthly mailing that I always looked forward to receiving.

  8. These two are nice looking builds that will look great next to your other builds. Great job on them.

  9. Great work, David. Your good work certainly makes those Perrys look their best.
As with some of your other admirers, I had contacts with Tom back in the day and still have USK kits of a Japanese "Mary" and a Norm", two of an obscure Do 22 multi-purpose a/c (wheels and floats), and a few decal sets in the stash. Maybe I'll live long enough to get my Mary out and built.
Congratulations on completing these little beauties!

  10. Very nice! I have build the A-USK Myrsky, and have 3 more USK kits in the stash to get to, so know it took some elbow grease to get these into respectable shape. Well done!
