1/32 Special Hobby Westland Whirlwind Mk.1
This is 1/32 Special Hobby Westland Whirlwind Mk.1 with the markings of P6985 HE-J No 263 squadron RAF in Exeter air base March 1941.
I have build this OOB except for Eduard seat belts and CMK wheels set.
I have used Gunze Sangyo acrylics as usual.

Your Whirlwind is looking awesome, especially the weathering and painting is fantastic.
I have never understood why the British chose this kind of lower surface camo.

"RAF fighters were painted in this way as an aid to recognition
It was used from 1938 up until June 1940, half white half black, for observation of friendly aircraft from the ground. There was no country-wide ground control radar. Radar only worked looking out to sea, or at higher altitudes, initially only being placed on coastal sites .
It was replaced by Sky undersides, but in November 1940 the black wing was reinstated. I'm not sure when it finally disappeared, possibly not until the introduction of the Day Fighter Scheme, with undersides of Medium Sea Grey".

Amazing work on this Tolga ,the cockpit interior is excelent and the overall finish is outstanding, but I have to dissagree with John (with the greatest of respect) ,I have never been able to get on with this aircraft ,nothing seems to match in my eyes ,the engines look too big ,the nose looks too pointy and the whole tailplane area looks completely wrong ! ,some machines look right straight from the drawing board,Spitfire , E-Type Jaguar , Mallard Locomotive etc etc...
But you still did a fantastic job on this ugly duckling 🙂

Super work on this Tolga. It's a great kit, and you definitely made the most of everything that was there.
Personally, I think the Whirlwind was one of the best-looking airplanes flown by either side in the war. But you know what they say about opinions and a certain part of the human anatomy - everybody's got one.

The Whirlwind always reminds me of the movie, "On the Water Front."
Where Brando's say's a lament as spoken by his character Terry Malloy, a boxer own by the mob; "You don't understand. I coulda had class. I coulda been a contender. "
The fortunes of war and time cut this promising aircraft's development because, engines that weren't up to par.
Tolga, this build is a mature work that can with stand the brutal eye of natural light, seasoned with the right amount greens and browns, whose values and intensities are really bring out the best in this kit. In short it works.
