2nd Build of 'The MiG' (F-5E), Italeri 1/72

November 26, 2021 · in Aviation · · 12 · 1.6K

Well...the Cowboys just lost in overtime on Thanksgiving, so I thought I'd make a post to cheer me up a bit.
Not exactly 100% completed as the pilot has yet to be assigned - review pending.

I liked the first ' MiG' from June enough to make a second build - this time I'm keeping it on my shelf.
This Kit No.136 was a much nicer build with a nicely detailed cockpit and a great Aggressor decal sheet.
With nicely raised panel lines, the kit was easy enough to build.
One issue was that the plastic was a bit to brittle and some plastic did chip off in some spots when cutting from the tree and I ended up with one broken wingtip rail.

Sprayed with matt black enamel from a rattle can, pledge used for the insignia, then coated with Micro Satin.
Glad I kept an extra copy of the base sticker for this build.

  1. I think it really looks deadly in that scheme, great job! I love that stand. Here's my Hobbyboss build of the mysterious Mig.

  2. Very nice F5, George @georgeswork
Usually a friendly looking plane but in pure black it lost its friendliness entirely.
    Great work on this one.

  3. Another beautiful job, George, this time in the "mysterious Mig" form.
    Looks extremely cool!

    • Thanks Spiros (@fiveten),
To make it look meaner, I am keeping my eyes open for any Exocet missiles in any of my kits so I can add on along with adding the pilot. They are mentioned in the Top Gun Movie but you never see they .

  4. Great model! Did you do this nice stand for model by yourself?

  5. Nice looking F-5, it does look pretty sleek in black. It also looks great on how you have it displayed!

  6. Epic build, just like the movie!
