Amodel's 1/72 IAR-80c Kit No. 72168 (2009 release)

November 24, 2021 · in Aviation · · 14 · 1.7K

, IAR-80c.

IAR-80c no. 279, Escadrila 45 Vanatoare, Targsor, Aug, 1943.

The was a Romanian World War II low-wing monoplane, all-metal monocoque fighter and ground-attack aircraft. When it first flew, in 1939, it was comparable to contemporary designs being deployed by the air forces of the most advanced military powers such as the Hawker Hurricane and Bf 109E. Production problems and lack of available armament delayed entry of the IAR 80 into service until 1941. It remained in frontline use until May 1945.

This is a short run kit with pretty decent decals. It looks good in the box and the end result is a very nice looking and, in my eyes, an accurate kit of the IAR-80. This was not exactly an easy build but it was not a terrible one, I used my files to make many parts fit correctly but the details are very fine and looks very nice when done.

This is my first IAR-80 and I am pretty happy with it and looks nice next to the other builds. This plane looks like a hot rod.

  1. Another excellent model Bob!
The IAR-80 is a very attractive plane and you made the most out of this good but challenging kit.
    The end result is fantastic!

  2. Very nice - I almost thought it was the 1/48 model.

  3. Very cool looking & uncommon aircraft... you’ve done a great job on this difficult kit, Bob @v1pro !

  4. I’ve always thought the IAR-80 is a good looking fighter.
You did a fine job here considering what you went through battling this kit into shape and making it look right. Congrats @v1pro

  5. I also built this kit last year and it was a challenging one. I know you put a lot of work into it to make it look so good!

  6. Very nice result, Bob @v1pro
You made this IAR80 look great and does indeed look more like 1/48
Together with the PZL they form a beautiful set of aircraft in Romanian service.

    • Thank you John @johnb, Amodel did a nice job to put in the fine details like the panels, also make the wingtips and gear doors thin in which gives it a bigger scale look. The colourful Romanian markings with the yellow strips and wing tips makes these two planes pretty attractive.

  7. Very attractive build - I really like the IAR 80 - have one of these to build myself!
