1/35 Amusing Hobby Russian Object 279

December 12, 2021 · in Armor · · 4 · 1.2K

Russian

Added Rubio barrel and Voyager PE details. First time weathering to this degree with oils and washes. Added white metal individual link tracks (that's four sets of tracks on this tank). Had serious fit issues with inner tracks clearing the rear lower hull. My most extensive AFV weathering to date. Great Fun!

  1. Great job, amazing painting and weathering to this experimental Soviet tank, Clarence!
    Two thumbs up!

  2. Excellent painting and weathering on this one Clarence@jagmkx. I am curious what colors you chose for the Soviet Armor Green; it is a hard color to get right and my soviet builds tend to look a bit too dark in the end. Did you lighten it at all before applying darker washes? BTW, I think the weathering looks great - very convincing - especially when compared to photos of the very beaten-up test vehicles that underwent field trials. Interesting choice to go with metal tracks. Personally, I find the single-link plastic ones work very well, in general, although they are a lot of work to carefully glue in order to get the right sag. I hope to see more of your armor builds in this site.

  3. Thanks guys! I'm going to start keeping my paint notes (scribbled on the instructions) as I think, it may have been Ammo/Mig Russian Tank Green (or that set of 3-4 colors?) I'm generally a Tamiya guy. (?) I did add white, yellow, rust, brighter green etc successively (to original base, and using color wheel as complimentary guide) (also dot filters) to generally the larger volumes. I'm usually to a fault more methodical but I think the evenings I did the final paint work was a rather zen bliss (aka cloud?) which sounds as I am, from California, (15 years ago for 15 years) however I do recall turning off my phone as the too many calls I was getting (after hours of course..) was honestly irritating and interfering with my process? " Thanks for calling, How am I feeling?"...interrupted:)

  4. OK grumpy old model maker... to follow up.. I did on the 279 use the Mig Oilbrushers
(no commercial connection). I'm not a Mig evangelist BUT I admire the guys' talents and
marketing and the Oil Brushers are great imho. But also used many Windsor & Newton old school
oils cut with w/ Turpenoid for coloration variances. For my current oldest vintage Tamiya Tiger 1,
I'm using an scrap Abrams turret. Having an identical process mule that leads your
work really helps me test and learn.
