Classic Kit: Revell 1/48 P-51D No. H31
Not to be confused with the Monogram 1/48 P-51D which was issued about the same time, the Revell P-51D builds up nicely. It does not have the removable panels like the Monogram version. That is one good thing going for it. I built it out of the box with no additions and does look very much like a P-51D when finished.
The background for the airfield scene was provided by my friend Tim Prosser, who is the best model photographer there is.
Very nice and clean work David. I love this Mustang ! The older kits are not that bad as we think and can be cheaper to acquire sometimes.
Thank you Bernard! You are correct in saying that older kits are not as bad and can be a lot cheaper at shows or club sales. I do have new wunderkind models but I always gravitate toward the older kits.
There were at least 3 1/48 kits released by Revell at that time, the P-51 and BF-109G were quite good, the Spitfire II was a bit of a disappointment.
I echo your comments about older kits, with 'wunderkits' you assemble, with older kits, you model!

Thank you Colin. Don't forget the excellent P-40E which was also issued at the same time. I have all of them except the P-40E which I plan on keeping an eye out for at the next show.
Beautiful job! I sure love the classics, I'm building the Revell box scale X-3 right now, 1969 boxing, "some modeling skills required" but I have been having a great time after a 6 month Tamiya Tomcat build!

Hi Spiros, thank you very much. It's a simple kit but with care it builds up nicely. For the orange and red nose cone I dipped the cone in red paint for the front color. I could not get mask it correctly. It worked out ok.
Looks like a P-51 to me. Nicely done!

Great job with that kit! I've seen these on ebay but never seen one built. Have revell's BF109G-10 and P-40E in the stash.
