Ebbro Models 1/20 Team Lotus 49C (1970)

February 7, 2022 · in Automotive · · 12 · 2.1K

Welcome to my bash at the mount of the late, great Jochen Rindt at the Monaco Grand Prix of 1970.

Aftermarket: Model Factory Hiro 0.4mm Clear Brown Tube, 0.5mm Black Ignition Wires, Air Funnel Mesh for DFV.
1/20 Seat Belts. Gold Leaf Decals By Hopalong Decals
Primers: Tamiya XF-53 Neutral Grey and XF-2 Flat White.
Paints: Zero Paints Gold Leaf Team 72 and 49B Paint Set, Red, White and Gold
Xtreme Metals Chrome and Polished Aluminium.
Enamel Flat Aluminium.
Tamiya LP-5 Semi-Gloss Black, LP-1 Gloss Black. XF-07 Flat Red. Molotov Chrome Pen
Posca Red Pen
Varnish: Mr. Color Super Gloss Clear III GX-100
My first Ebbro build and I was delighted that the reputation of fit and accuracy was not unfounded.

My only problem in this build was with the Zero Paints Lotus Red as this was the only one of the paints I couldn't get a smooth finish with. More practice needed I feel.

A belter of a kit and a thoroughly enjoyable build. I may get started on the Ebbro Tyrrells and Jim Clark's Lotus 49 at some time soon as I'm no longer scared of making a complete mess of the kit.

Thanks for looking,
Cheers,
Alistair

  5. Very nice result, Alistair @alistairfgauld
Would love to see the Tyrrell and the Lotus 49 as well.

  6. Thanks, Alastair, that’s my new year’s resolution decided, build an Ebbro F1 kit. Lotus had so many great drivers and your model is a fitting tribute to one of the best. The Gold Leaf livery is one of my favourites, I actually prefer it to the later JPS black and gold colours. Definitely liked.

    • Thank you very much.
The Ebbro kits are really nice, if a tad fiddly around the suspension areas but I'm glad I got round to this one and lost the fear of messing up element out of my head.

      Cheers,
      Alistair
