1/48 Republic USAF F-84F Thunderstreak Fighter-Bomber Jet Aircraft

Republic USAF F-84F Fighter-Bomber Jet Aircraft: This is Brand's 1st Model Kit released about 10 years ago. Assembly was straight-forward and appropriate for entry-level model builders. Parts fit was excellent and required no filler or putty. The plastic had a strange rough texture to it but this did not impact the build or painting. Primary Natural Metal Aluminum Finish was accomplished using Vallejo's Metal Color dull aluminum over a black primer. I used Future Floor Wax as a sealant. If you have not used this Vallejo metal paint before your really missing out; I use this for all my natural metal finish projects. It is so easy to apply and really holds up well to handling following the application if applied over a quality primer. The decals are out of the box and I must say were some of the best decals I have ever worked with. They are thin but sturdy and sit well once applied. The Out of the Box detail is excellent and the only aftermarket parts used are Eduard seat belts. The only down side to the cockpit detail is the instrument panel, no decals are provided for it. The raised detail on this panel is very faint and difficult to finish properly. I just slightly dry brushed it and left it alone. I recommend an after-market instrument panel. The ejection seat is very nicely detailed but has molded on seat belts. I placed the photo-etched seat belts right over the molded in detail. For fans of 1950's early fighter jets this model kit is highly recommended.

  1. A wonderful model, Paul!
Thanks for all kit and build details!

  2. This looks really nice, Paul. One of the best of these Kinetic kits I've seen done.

I do have a sneaking suspicion that the first time the Wing King sees this airplane, the First Sergeant is going to get an earful and there are going to be a couple airman seconds out there with brushes and mops and buckets full of cleaner, very soon! 🙂

  3. Very nicely done 'Streak! That scheme sure pops, and the cockpit looks great. I thoroughly enjoyed this kit, and it seems evident that you did as well. Thanks for sharing!

    • Thanx for feedback. The cockpit comes with some good detail to work with. The IP needs help though, would of preferred after-market for that.

      • Paul, I agree with that assessment. Believe it or not, Eduard only just last year released a Zoom set for this kit. I know because it came out about a week after I had glued my canopy into the closed position! Just my luck.

  4. "Busily" eye appealing. Well done, Paul.

  5. Excellent result, Paul @jjetmec
Paintwork and weathering looks great on this Thunderstreak.

  6. Very nice work - nicely dirtied up, and great paint work.

  7. Well done, Paul. That is a really nice and appealing F-84!

  8. Thank You Joe for your kind words.
