Hobby Craft 1/48th Hawker Sea Fury FB.Mk.11

April 26, 2022 · in Aviation · · 20 · 1.1K

I started this build probably near the end of 1989, the year this kit was released. I got as far as airbrushing the Sky Type S paint on to it but stopped and left it on my shelf. As time went by the box and the rest of the parts for this kit disappeared but I did saved the Almark decal sheet that was bought for this build.

Missing to complete this build were the undercarriage's main gear doors, wheels, rear wheel assembly and tail hook. I lucked out and found some parts on eBay. The resin parts (spinner/propeller, drop tanks and lower engine louvers) from Cooper Details, robbed wheels from the Eduard Tempest Mk. V, white metal tail wheel from who knows where and scratch building the main gear doors brought this kit back to live.

After being ignored close to 33 years sitting on a shelf in a dark corner of my basement, I call it done!

Below is the link if you want to read the build, thank you.

  1. That's quite the wait on the shelf of doom. Turned out rather nice.

  2. You can almost call this bird phoenix, Bob. Nice work with the missing pieces, your Fury looks great ?.

    • Thank you George, a phoenix it sure is. I must have pick this up 100 times but during the years but I was not building anything. I am glad I never sent it to the bin. The scratch building I’m pretty happy with.

  3. Beautiful result, my friend @v1pro! Great that it finished after all these years patiently waiting.
    Great build thread, too!

  4. Turned out really nice Bob and worth the extra work to bring it back from the dead. I built the same kit years ago and now have the Airfix kit in the "to do" pile so when its time to paint I may get the earlier kit out and give it a new lease of life in a different scheme so thanks for the inspiration !.

  5. A wonderful Seafire, Bob @v1pro
It really paid off that you restarted this build.
Everything on this one looks great.
Thanks for the building thread, it was a pleasure to follow.

  6. She seasoned well, Bob. Well done!

  7. Nice work, Bob. 33 years is a long time.

  8. Nice "bring back" project Bob! Ya gotta her done man! ?

  9. By hook or by crook you got this baby to the flight line! Well done - looks great.

  10. Looks very nice, Bob @v1pro,
That’s an amazing background story on that particular kit.

    • Thank you Jay @ssgt, I am still amazed on how long it too me to get this done…for years I kept eyeing this kit and I kept saying, “this year I will get it done”….I am glad it’s done! ?.
