Review: Eduard's new 1/72 S-199 Mezek

May 22, 2022 · in Reviews · · 5 · 1K

Among the kits in the big box that landed at Le Chateau du Chat yesterday morning from Prague was the new limited edition Mezek kit.

This isn't the first time someone has tried to do the Mezek (known as the Sakeen to the Israelis), but it's the first time someone who knew what was what did it.

There are two kits inside. Different fuselages to do the earlier S-199 Sakeen, and the later S-199 Mezek with the sliding bubble canopy. Also other detail parts are included to do an early, mid-production or late production S-199. Decals are included for nine Czech and three Israeli airplanes.

If you have seen the new Bf-109Es from Special Hobby, which are done in cooperation with , you have a good idea of the quality of the kits. Beautiful surface detail, precise fit, ease of construction (I took a whole 2 hours to assemble them, and I was taking my time). There's p-e for instrument panels, seatbelts and small cockpit detail.

There's been a revolution in 1/72 kits in the past few years. Eduard's kits are top of the pile, and these continue that.

Now all we need is a 1/48 release!

  1. Both look great, Tom!
    Thanks for the jit info!

  2. Seems like an interesting limited kit, Tom @tcinla
    Looking forward to the results.

  3. I'm waiting for the 1/48 kit to show up being the scale snob I pretend I am. Those Eduard 1/72 kits look really nice.

Throw in the Arma Hobby kits and there's sudden a bunch of decent easy to build 1/72 kits that rival 1/48 detail.

  4. They look great, Tom. Agree 100% on 1/72 these days.

  5. Looking for a kit now to add to my 109s project...
