1/32 Trumpeter Bf109E3 Yugoslav Royal Air Force

August 27, 2022 · in Aviation · 8 · 0.6K

It was, and still it is, very hot summer. I wasn;t into some modelling because I was exhausted by the summer heat. But, finally, I menage to finish some models.

First of two is my all time fav Bf109E3 in Yugoslav Royal Air Force markings. But, this time it is in 1/32 scale. This is old Trumpeter E7, but with some modifications one can assamble it as a E3. Just another “hollow” nose and some other minor scrathbuilds.

I decided to do it in white L4 markings, it was flown by pilot Danilo Djordjevic. He was taken prisoner and freed from a prison camp in Germany at the end of the WWII. Decals are LiftHere.

Assembly of the model is pretty easy and without some troubles. Just be careful with putting capotage over the engine, it wont fit. I left the radio compartment open, so the whole radio section can be seen with some flashlight. Unfortunatelu, pics didn’t took that detail.

Canopy is not glued so it can be opened. Only big hiccup was with decals for instruments, they are not for this instrument table.

I scratchbuilt entire cockpit area, because it was very poor and spartan with details. All little details are made from scratch.

Model is painted with strict color callouts by YRAF. Model is painted with acrylics and lacquers. Basic weathering is done with oils and washes. I did just a basic weathering because YRAF planes were excelently mainted.

I didn’t want to write some history of BfE3s in YRAF because I wrote it earlier. So, thank You in advance, and feel free to comment, cheers!

  1. Glad you overcame the summer heat and managed to finish this.

  2. Despite the heat, you build a great 109, Djordje @sheol
    Looks great in Yugoslavian scheme.

  3. Beautiful result, Djordje!

  4. Excellent build! I've got a 109 project going to build all the various users of my favorite German fighter - there will be one of these in there somewhere! I'll use yours for reference. What was the topside color used for the Yugoslav aircraft?

    • Sorry for late answer, topside color is RLM70, downside is RLM65.
Cockpit a landing gear wells and legs are RLM02
Gunsight, seat and instrument table is RLM66
Spinner on the inside is matt because of reflection 🙂
