Revell 1:48 kit of the U.S. Marines F4U-4 Corsair VMA-332, USS Bairoko (CVE-115)

August 22, 2022 · in Aviation · · 14 · 0.9K

At Korea, July 1953. This is the second assembly of this model in approximately 6 months. Only on the other one, I used the decals for the Black Sheep Squadron VMF-214. I wanted to see if this purchase required as much cutting, sanding and cursing as the first one that I put together. It did, as I am convinced that after assembling models of all descriptions and manufacturers for about 65 years off and on, save for the years that I was in the Navy, that this is the worst model that has ever put into the mould. I know it's old and is not that expensive, but anyone thinking about assembling this as a novice and with a child, should never consider doing that. Modeling is fun, correct?

  1. Besides the drawbacks of this kit, you made a beautiful Corsair out of it, Emmet @bmolloy
    Well done.

  2. The decals are worth the purchase. To use on the Hasegawa F4U-4. 🙂

  3. A wonderful Corsair, Emmet!

  4. Still came out nice! I agree that this is a tough kit. I started one a few years ago in an effort to build a crash diorama. . . never got very far and ended up in the trash bin. Way to see it through to the finish!

    • Thank you, yes, I held a few parts in place until the glue dried. Also I applied all the decals prior to assembling the model. I had never done that and took a chance but found it easier to do with all the parts laying flat on the table. I only had to use one extra decal and that was the number “14” on the front of the left wheel. I was lucky that I had a second decal sheet sent to me from Revell of Germany Customer Service. Took about two weeks to arrive and they shipped it for free.

  5. It seems you can’t go wrong with a Corsair on iModeler and you’ve done that very well.
