Tamiya 1:48 P51-D Mustang kit

August 14, 2022 · in Aviation · · 12 · 0.8K

This is a kit that almost puts itself together. Fine quality as usual with good decals. About 20 hours to paint and assemble using Testors spray and bottle paints. Instructions are easy to follow. I used Tamiya extra thin cement which gets into all the tiny crevices and shows little or none of any cement where you didn't want it to be. I actually used my own color scheme and decal placement for this model and disregarded the instructions for painting the aircraft. I definitely recommend this kit as I considered it a level 2.

  1. Hi Emmet, surely this should be in “aviation”. Nice, clean job using Tamiya products.

  2. Thanks, being new, I knew nothing about the different categories. However now I see what you mean and I fixed it.

  3. Fantastic Mustang! One of my best planes that I like 🙂

  4. Beautiful Mustang, Emmet!
    Welcome aboard!

You started with a beautiful Mustang.
    Well done.

  6. Great looking mustang! Natural finish looks very nice- what paint did you use for the metal?

    • Thank you. I used Testors chrome color paint in the little spray can. The instructions called for aluminum color but the store didn’t have that so this was close enough. I have never tried an air brush as I always buy the little spray cans at either Hobby Lobby or Michaels. I guess the best is the air brush but at 77 I am not going to go that way.

  7. Very nice! Colorful scheme.
