  1. Have you discussed this with your doctor? I thought similarly back in 2016, but then I got the first of two eye surgeries, implanting new lenses, and now I'm back to building 1/72, without using an optivisor.

  2. Ohmygosh man...without getting to deep into personal info...do give Tom C's words some consideration. If it's just cataracts, go for the surgery. It's gamechanging. Fear not, I've spent more time in a dentist chair than I did in the eye surgeon operating room.

  3. Hi Thomas, I’m 72 this year, and I’ve had to wear glasses to correct my sight since the age of 8. Two years ago I was told I had cataracts and had the surgery to remove them which meant new lens, now I only have to wear ordinary reading glasses for close-up work. Go see your eye specialist.

  4. Good luck for your future, Tom.

Not far from this decision myself, but there's still one build to finish, two more kits I just have to start and carry through, and a garage full of "stash" that my wife has no interest in dispensing with after I'm gone. So, I'll keep plugging away, each new build being, one hopes, only a slightly less polished than the one before.

If cataracts are the problem, do discuss the surgery with your eye doc, but it doesn't provide a lasting solution for everyone, and if you're used to wearing glasses for myopia, think hard about letting the doc "correct" your focal points, as you'll lose the close vision ability you're accustomed to having by looking over the tops of your lenses.

  5. Thanks for the note, and many thanks for your service to America. Appreciate your posting awesome dioramas of Devil Dogs fighting in the Pacific Theater.

    Best wishes!

  6. What all above Gents said, Thomas! Hope you find a way to keep on modeling.

  7. Hope you can find a way to keep modelling, Thomas. Otherwise it would be a great loss to have to quit this hobby.

  8. Yeah, as above don't give up, see what can be done we live in a wonderful age.

  9. Good Luck Thomas. Keep trying if possible.
I struggle with eye sight too.
I Managed to make it work so far with strong lighting. Magnifier light and glasses

  10. Tom don't give up the ship, my father before he checked out for Mars had Macular degeneration in both eyes, he could only see through the outer radius of the eyes still did some scratch builds. I myself was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2015. I know my skill level has suffered, cause it ain't gonna get better. but still gots to smell that styrene, At the very least you could sniff some glue sometimes. good luck! @tsweeney.

  11. Good Luck! Don't give up!

  12. Hi Tom,

Never give up. I too as many of the comments above have had two surgeries on my left eye this year and am left with 30% periferal vision in my left eye which means I have very poor depth perception. All I do is close the bad eye and try to work with one eye. Also, my models arn't at a great level anymore, but the pleasure is for me only, so I keep going. Hope you take strength from all the support above and that you keep building.

  13. Very best of luck Tom @tsweeney!
    Best wishes
