Welcome to iModeler ver 3
Tonight we have concluded a series of updates that collectively amount to an important milestone in the iModeler release cycle. It combines over 100 smaller improvements and fixes, plus five major ones:
Markdown - it will change the way you write your posts
iModeler now officially introduces Markdown as a preferred way of text formatting in your articles, posts or comments. This means that you can now create formatted content using only regular characters and some punctuation marks. No more using awkward tags or BBCodes! This article has been formatted with Markdown, and you can do the same in your posts. Learn more in our brand-new Markdown tutorial.
Bump me!
Authors and commenters are now always displayed with their @id handle to promote and simplify direct mentions. For example, my own handle is @techsupport. Whenever you type it (don't forget the leading @
) in your post or comment, iModeler will automatically "bump" me with a notification that you've mentioned me, and allow me to navigate directly to your message. This is an effective way of keeping the right people the loop during a conversation.
Support your friends
In this release we have also put friend relationships in focus. It is easy to see that many friend relations at iModeler are for real, with friends genuinely supporting each other's activity. Now you can clearly see which of all the postings or comments across iModeler were contributed by your friends. Hopefully, this will highlight the value of friend relations and motivate you to find new ones!
We also also improving the privacy for author information. The intention is that your @id handle, friend information will only ever be shown to other members of iModeler, not to general public visiting the site. We are about 75% ready towards that goal.
Say hello to the Database
The section formerly known as A-Z Index is now called the Database. The Database is a powerful way of exploring, following and researching all of our published material by keyword or tag. You can read more about it here.
We have great plans for the Database in the future, whereupon certain material such as reference, walkarounds etc. could be posted only in the database rather than through the Headlines as it is today. An early example of this is our new help section, see below.
Get help!
Last but not least, we are introducing an entirely new help system with over a dozen tutorials aimed at to help beginners, but also advanced users to make the most of their iModeler interactions. You can find the Help & tutorials
link at the very top right and in the footer of every iModeler page, or have a preview via this link:

Well that's all for this announcement. Happy modelling!
Thanks for all the hard work. I have already been enjoying many of the improvements you have just made. Well done @techsupport.
Hi @techsupport, many, many thanks for this, iModeler is definitely the number one site for all modellers, happy modelling indeed, with as many ‘l’s as you can squeeze in, but two for preference.
Thanks again

Sounds great !
Thanks for all these improvements, Martin! A fantastic site getting better and better!
Thanks Martin for all your work on a great and improving site.
Many thanks to all the work you put into maintaining and upgrading this website, Martin @techsupport
Thank you for all the "off hours" efforts to keep this site up to date. Very much appreciated.
Thank you all 🙂
Martin you are a tech god when it comes to this web site. Great work on building what I consider the best modeling site on the world wide web. Two thumbs up followed by a hand salute.
Thank you for all the hard work. With a 100 changes and new components you had alot to do.
I take my hat off to you sir.
Regards
Brian
Thank you Martin!

Martin,
You and your dedicated team are an incredible group of individuals. This website has increased, not only in the number of members, but also the number of articles, group builds and much more since I have joined up. This is only possible because of the hard work you guys do behind the scenes. Your improvements have also made it a lot easier to compose and post articles here.
I sincerely thank you all for creating (and keeping) this the best modelling website there is, anywhere, hands down.
I feel very fortunate to have made some very good friends because of this.
@lgardner: I'm humbled. Just for clarity, I there was a period when we were attempted to broaden the business and had a team but these days, iModeler is once again happily operated by yours truly (albeit for practical reasons I'm acting in two personas: @techsupport for tech/support issues and @editor for everything else). I'm glad to say I'm rather proficient operating everything on my own, so there should be no adverse effect on your end 🙂
From the outset, was very keen on making iModeler is a real deal, with real modelers joining, real friendships developing, showing your stuff rather than just looking at the work of others. I'm glad to hear that you and the other members have benefited from it. So have I 🙂 And look at the Database we've assembled - it's mind-boggling.

@editor
I have been browsing the incredible list of articles that we all have access to because of the latest upgrades . I too was very impressed by the sheer number of them. This is an incredible achievement, and only possible because of the combined efforts of everyone involved in the process. The model builders, who are also photographers, (and writers), have a means of displaying their work now in an easy to use format. It gets better all the time, and I especially like the way we can now add descriptions to our pictures. I know this isn't the latest upgrade you have done, but it is my favorite. I'm still learning how to use the different text features, and it should become easy after I read the various tutorials a time or two.
This incredible collection of articles and model / group builds is only possible because of your hard work. Again I sincerely thank you for creating and maintaining this awesome place. It really is mind boggling.
Two thumbs up, and a hand salute. 🙂
Imodeler is definitely the Real Deal.
Thank you.
Martin @techsupport: iModeler already is the real deal, no small thanks to you. Bravo for making it happen!
