1/72 Bf 110D Zerstorer – Fujimi No.7A-17
Started with Jerry Crandell Memorial GB a few months ago, I had good intentions of posting progress but I'm just lucky to have completed the kit the way things are going these days – just a little busy.
Finding Eagle Cals EC#118, I was immediately sold upon viewing the Erganzungs Schlacht Gruppe nose art and figured that was the way to go. I found an actual photo of 4M+RB after completion, the photo does confirm Eagle Cals instructions of the larger underwing insignia that hug the under wing rads, instead of the smaller sized crosses that further outboard.
My Fujimi No.17 kit was the second release of the kit sometime between 1976 and 1987, making the kit at least 46 yrs old – this kit was the BF110D with Belly tank. The vintage kit went together well enough. I used my old Model Master Acrylic for RLM 75 and then AK Interactive for RLM 74 and 76, and gave Vallejo ‘Weather Paint' Stencils a try to do the mottling – good enough for my intentions on this build, I'll use the stencils again.
Thanks for the GB and thanks for viewing!
A wonderful model, my friend @georgeswork!
As always, you clearly showed what an excellent result can come out of a classic kit, if built by a skillful modeler!
Congratulations!
P.S. Your opinion on Model Master acrylics? Do they spray well? What do you dilute them with?
Thanks Spiros (@fiveten).
The Model Master Acrylics are nice to spray and I thin them with Tamiya X-20A, they are pretty good with a paint brush too. Tamiya Acrylics are still my fav, but you gotta mix Tamiya colours to get the RLM shades.
Thanks for the info, my friend @georgeswork! Found a good quantity of MM acrylics at "prices I can't refuse", so I will give them a try!
That’s how I got mine, they were clearing them out and I could not say ‘no’.
Excellent result on this oldie, George @georgeswork
It is always nice to have a reference picture of your build, even if found once finished.
Well done.
Thanks John (@johnb).
Yes, I was a bit hesitant about the size of the underwing insignia but the photo made me glad I trusted the instructions.
Nicely done George, looks good.
Thank you Allan (@kalamazoo)
Looks great, George!
Thanks Gary (@gwskat)
I’ve always liked the look of the 110 for some reason, George, and the nose-art makes this one that little bit different. Great work on this “vintage” kit.
Thank you George (@chinesegeorge)
I wasn't really a Bf110 kinda guy - but this build has changed my opinion on the looks of the aircraft, it does have some nice design lines.
Nicely done George, looks great. I really like the overall look.
Thank you Bob (@v1pro),
Start with a nice kit, you get a nice model.
Nice one, George!
Thanks John (@j-healy).
very good looking Bf110!
Thank you Lis (@lis)
Great-looking 110! That wolf's head nose art really stands out.
Thanks Greg (@gkittinger),
if I get to another Bf110, it'll prob have shark teeth.
Nice work George. The Fujimi kits are a new discovery for me. They seem very nice with lots of detail.
Keep up the good work!
Thanks Bernard (@bernardbedeur),
considering their age, they are some nice kits, but compare to other recent molds Fujimi kits can be dated.
Fujimi does have nice 1/72 WWII Japanese aircraft and their later 1/72 Phantoms are also very nice kits.
Watch out for some of their 1/50 scale kits labelled as 1/48.
