Revell 1/48 Bristol Beaufighter TF. X

April 24, 2023 · in Aviation · · 17 · 517

A build I've wanted to get round to for a while.

The Squadrons were based at RAF Dallachy fairly close to the River Spey.
I decided early on that I wouldn't be doing a Black Friday Beau so this is my attempt at RD3549 of 489 Squadron as flown on the Kiel Bay Strike Missions by Warrant Officers R. Priest and D. Ball.
Today on Bogmoor Road there is a memorial to the Dallachy Strike Wing.

This is my little memorial to The Dallachy Strike Wing who, although relatively unknown, contributed massively to the war effort and to those who paid the ultimate price.

The kit is not bad with a few very fit issues and nothing that a little judiciousness filling and sanding can't solve.

The undercarriage parts are a bit fiddly but do go together with a little care.

Aftermarket used:

AeroCraft 3D printed engines and cowlings
The kit decals were used apart from the Fuselage Codes and Serials which were masked and sprayed.

Primed with grey and Gloss Black for the metallics.
Painted with:
Colourcoats Extra Dark Sea Grey, Interior Grey Green and FAA/RAF Yellow.
Tamiya Rubber Black, Buff, Nato Black, Clear Red, Clear Green and Semi-Gloss Black
Mr. Hobby Aqueous Sky.
Windsor & Newton Burnt Umber and Burnt Sienna used for the wood effect
Washed with Flory Dark Dirt and a Burnt Umber mixed with lighter fluid.
Oils used for filtering:
Windsor & Newton Graduate White, Black, Paynes Grey, Ochre Yellow, Green and Cerulean Blue.
Finished with Windsor & Newton Matt and Satin varnishes.

You may notice that the Torpedo had moved and was a tad squint and I've forgotten to unmask the Landing Lights.
I only noticed in the pics but it has now been fixed.

Thanks for looking,

Cheers,
Alistair
