iModeler update – Goodbye likes, hello reactions!
Tonight I am excited to announce an upgrade that has been long in the making and one that I'm particularly happy about. In response to feedback from our users, we have replaced the old CLICK HERE TO LIKE THIS
button with a set of new, more versatile reaction buttons that better reflect the diversity of opinions and feelings that you may have when interacting with the articles at iModeler.
Our new reaction buttons include options to show four different reactions:
👏 AWESOME
️❤ LOVED
💡 HELPFUL
😲 WOW
These buttons will allow you to express your appreciation for an article in an infinitely more nuanced way than the "like" button, highlighting specific aspects of the article that you found particularly interesting, inspiring, or helpful. Let's break down the meaning of these reactions:
- Awesome: Great effort!
- Loved: You're fond about it
- Helpful: You learned something useful!
- Wow: You're amazed
You can express your feedback as either one reaction, or any combination thereof. Your previous likes have been converted to "Awesome".
There is more: these reactions are not simply on or off. By clicking a button multiple times, you can assign up to 12 points of appreciation in each category. The more points you add, the more positive reinforcement goes back to the author!
If you like to reset your score, just keep clicking - after reaching the maximum of 12 points your input will cycle back to zero, and so on.
The endorsement is public - the author will get to know that you clicked, but not how many points you assigned.
I believe that these new buttons will help to foster more connection within our community, as well as provide our authors with more feedback on the impact of their work. I want to thank all users for your ongoing engagement and feedback, which has guided me to make this improvement to our platform.
I will be excited to see how the reaction buttons are put to use and look forward to hearing your feedback on this update. Indeed, why don't you try out our new reaction buttons below?
PS. Although the reaction buttons look simple, getting them to operate smoothly is rather complicated. So as usual, please let me know about any glitches or problems.
I love to see that you're offering further improvement to this community, a big thank YOU! 🙂
Not a nit, but I am a bit curious why 12 was chosen, instead of 5 or even 10?
Hi @pb_legend. Thanks. Had to start with something that gives a reasonable amount of "headroom". After a while, we'll be able to see if the whole range is used, or if we need to adjust it in some way.
Sounds great, Martin!
Thank you so much for the continuous effort!
Thank you Martin for all your efforts!
Great idea, Martin, looks like fun, many thanks for making this site the best.
Another great idea, Martin. Well done.
I don't like this.

I'm actually fine with this. It won't negatively affect my enjoyment of this site at all.
Not my thing. This is the only public site I use. No emoji or anything like that in my life.
I respect this but not for me.
Love the site however.
Nice addition to the site. I'll more than likely use them in the future.
Thanks a lot for this upgrade, Martin @editor
Your continues work to upgrade this website is really appreciated.
Thanks for the upgrade Martin and all the fine work you put in to the site.
Thanks all. As usual, as soon as a complex feature is launch, one is getting new ideas for fine-tuning. So today I have adjusted the text labels on the reaction buttons. Finding good names is tricky - you want to convey what they stand for, yet make them relevant in a broad variety of contexts. Thus "Aha!" becomes "Helpful" - which I think is more self-explanatory, and "Applause" becomes "Awesome" (to make it more clear what you're expressing).
Hmm. What do you think?...
Nice addition! Thank you for the continued support/updates.
Great addition!
