B-25 1/48 painted to highlight the stressed surface

June 24, 2024 · in Aviation · · 11 · 389

It was first built in March 2023 and returned to the workbench for enhancements in April 2024.

I've coined the nickname "Inca" for my unique technique of using only painting skills to create the look of airplane skin. Each metal sheet resembles the stacked stones found in ancient Inca constructions. Since 2022, around eight model-building projects have utilized the initial Inca rendering (Inca 1.0) concept, which involves painting a regular pattern of stressed skin across the wings and fuselage.

This build is likely in a mature stage of using the Inca 1.0 technique. I plan to continue evolving this method by incorporating irregular surface expressions. I released a new one just this morning. https://imodeler.com/2024/06/stressed-surface-by-painting-on-zero-1-24/

    Well done!

  4. Awesome indeed. Since I first saw some of your other work on YouTube, I have been following along with these builds. Very effective and forward thinking. And probably not any more difficult to do than the traditional method of filing and smoothing the exterior skin (other than the artistic talent you obviously have which puts your work in a class by itself).

  5. That really looks the part! I was surprised to see it was all done with paint.

  6. This technique results in a beautiful realistic looking stressed surface, Alex @superdad1688

  7. Thank you so much for all the comments and welcoming messages. I am honored. Iā€™m a mature hobbyist with minimal time, so I keep a slow pace with my scale model building. I've read all your comments and will continue to enjoy my slow but joyful pace in the future.

  8. Very interesting technique - looks like it takes a lot of patience to apply (regardless of skill!). Nicely done!

  9. Excellent result, looks very realistic.

  10. Nice result for a great looking model Alex. I'll have to look you up on YouTube and have a look at your Inca technique šŸ˜€
