The slow race to first resin finish.

November 10, 2024 · in Aviation · · 11 · 212

Greetings.

Despite collecting for a few decades and amassing an extensive, eclectic collection of obscure garage kits, I have actually never finished a resin model. There are quite a few of them rotting away on my Shelf Of Doom, half started and squandering, but none have crossed my finish line.

So having finished this SBS C.450 today, I was sitting and appreciating my work when I realized this racer is my first resin completion. It fits: it's a simple, easy, relatively inexpensive, forgiving model that is perfect for anyone's first resin job.

The decals settle down wonderfully, though I was using my technique of abusing Solvaset as if it was Micro Sol/Set. The white of the decals is a little thin. The blue is Mission Models French blue acrylic shot out of an airbrush, but the gloss and semi gloss coats were direct out of a Tamiya rattle can.

This was a fun diversion, though I admit it's not normally my thing: this model was sent to me by mistake as i tried to order something else. Regardless, I had fun, and have awoken to the interesting world of inter-war aircraft racing. I do have that Dora Wings Gee-Bee.

Thanks for looking.

  1. Beautiful result, Kyle!
Well done on your first resin kit!

  2. Yes George Sharp's the word. Came out spiffing, Sonny. Looks like a fighter could be made of that.

  3. A very pretty little Caudron - this is one of SBS best models and you have done really nicely with it.

  4. A wonderful result on your first finished resin kit, Kyle @kopperhed
Nice and shiny, for sure something to be proud of.

  5. Very nice result. That blue gloss turned out real well.

  6. What a beauty!

  7. That’s beautiful, Kyle! Cutting large chunks of resin isn’t something I enjoy and I avoid kits like this. Vacs were far easier.

  8. That is a handsome model, Kyle! Well done for sure! 👍

  9. Great job, Kyle. Despite only being one color it's a very striking scheme. Again, well done.

  10. Excellent finish on this - well done!
