Corsair's Mania

January 30, 2025 · in Aviation · · 18 · 371

This is a made from a box by . It is a Vought -1A Corsair of "VMA 321", White 042-based on "CVU 98 USS Kwajlein 01".

I took some liberties with the finishes, and perhaps there are some inaccuracies from a historical point of view, but I am satisfied with the result.

The model was completed a couple of months ago, and I had tried to illustrate the process in the topic you can find. I didn't encounter many difficulties during the build. Instead, as I mentioned, I focused on having fun experimenting with new effects for weathering and chipping.

You'll also have to forgive me for the creative liberty I took in leaving some panels in bare metal… My intention was to represent them as replacement parts that hadn't been painted. I mainly used Tamiya colors, along with pastels and AK's chipping fluid. I plan to build more Corsairs—probably too many for the time I have available, but I'll give it a try!

  9. Excellent - that paint and weathering work really gave this character! Love it.

  10. Grazie Greg @gkittinger, I actually had fun doing it!

  11. Very impressive model Davide and I really like it. Kudos that you weathered the stars and bars and many weather the camouflage, but seem to forget the national insignias weather as well. I have the MF kit in my stash and it looks great in the box with more detail than the Tamiya kit. It looked so nice that I opted to ditch all of my Tamiya kits and hope MF releases a F4U-1D in the future.

  12. Thank you! Hope see soon your Corsair!
