KP 1/72 Avia B.35.1

January 20, 2025 · in Aviation · · 31 · 278

This is an old kit from KP, kit no.8 first released in 1974. It is a simple kit with a not so great fit but still not a bad kit to deal with. The history of this plane is a short one, this model represents the first prototype that first flew in 1938. Avia made three prototypes, first the B.35.1, then the B.35.2 and the third was B.35.3. The latter was made with a retractable landing gear with a modified wing. This led to 12 builds and it was called the B.135.1

The build was mostly out of the box but I did put in some extra details inside the cockpit. I used some craft acrylic paint and Tamiya acrylic paint to hand brush the model. At first I chose to go with the box art markings but I followed the instruction's paint scheme instead. I did not trust the original decals, so I ordered a set from this site, https://www.hobbyshop.cz/shop/en/9_apc-decals.

All in all, not a bad kit of a unique Czech prototype fighter.

A little added note:In 1/72 scale, this is the only game in town for the 1st prototype and it is pretty accurate. The second prototype, B.35.2 is made by RS Models.

  1. A beautiful model of an interesting prototype. Thank you for sharing.

  2. Another KP Classic Bob.
You're correct - not a bad kit at all, nicely done.

    • Thank you George @georgeswork. This was my 5th old KP build in the past 3 years. I am enjoying these kits very much in a weird sick way... I hope to build more in the future.

  3. A great result, and a kit you don't see completed very often. Well done!

  4. Looks great! I'm pretty sure I built this little kit too (waaay back...)! I like these unusual finds.

  5. Well done. I did this particular aircraft (B.35.1) in 1:48 many years ago. I forget who the mfg. was.

    • Thank you Chas @chasbunch. Like the 1/72 B.35, there are not too many kits in 1/48 scale. I got to see a series of videos on the building MPM vacuform 1/48 B.35.1 and SabreKits 1/48 B.35.2. This link is for the final presentation of both builds: https://youtu.be/J5T8nAAKpYg?si=HVRAjVV0MAMG_eVE

      • I had another look at my files - It's a resin kit from Planet Models.

  6. This is a wonderful build, Bob @v1pro
Your brush painting skills are really impressive. Are you applying multiple thin layers or is one layer sufficient.

  7. Nice work Bob. I did the Planet models prototype kit of this plane in 1/48 some years back. I've always liked the sleek look of the Avia.

  8. Excellent result, Bob! I also love KP kits in the same weird way!
    Two thumbs up!

  9. It’s amazing how well these older, less sophisticated kits turn out when you build them , Bob @v1pro , I’m impressed with your modeling skills and patience . This Avia looks great, I really like the paint scheme , you did great brush painting on it.

    • Thank you Jay @ssgt! These old KP kits are pretty unique kits, most of the smaller ones have low parts counts but the kit fit is not the best, in many cases the roughness of the look and flash that needs to be cleaned off on the styrene sheets, old lousy decals and not so clear clear parts is what we see when we open the box containing the kit. To me they are better kits than many of the short run kits that have been released over the years. And your right, patience is needed to make the old KP kits. In regards to the paint scheme I almost got what I wanted. Maybe one more application of the brown and green should have been done. Thanks again!

  10. Another nice addition to your KP collection Bob.

  11. Spectacular camouflage and good work all around.

  12. Spectacular camouflage and good work all around. Making these old kits feels loke traveling back in time.

  13. Nice work, Bob. That’s one I’ve never seen actually built til now.
