1/48 Hobby Boss Fw 190D-13 Yellow 10
Bought this kit last December and in between other projects started to put it together. I tried to eschew any aftermarket and just build, needless to say ordered the Eduard canopy mask and found in the stash some Airwaves Luftwaffe PE seatbelts.
Kit went together without any problems. Raided my Eduard spares for a pre-painted propellor, then more Eduard in the MG151/20 cannon barrels, control stick, IFF antenna, and finally the step as the kit one vanished on me.
First, per the Squadron Fw 190D walkaround, painted aircraft in 74/76 from Vallejo. Since there is plenty of debate on bare metal undersides only the gear doors got Vallejo pale aluminum. Then the fun began. Splotches and wiggles of Model Master RLM 81, Vallejo RLM 83, and the light green from the Ammo SEA set were applied to fuselage and wings; to my eye was not getting enough visual contrast between the Vallejo RLM 82 and RLM 83.
Decals are pretty much from the kit except the white spiral was from Eduard and the Yellow 10 which came the Karaya #4804 decal sheet which also provided the markings for the Fw 190F-8. The kit supplied Yellow 10 was too pale.
So there you have it.
Really nice. Love the camo
Thank you. Never thought I would tackle such a complex scheme with an airbrush.
Fine build & finish. Well done.
Thanks. It was a challenge but once done I was pretty happy with it.
I’m going to chime in here and echo what was stated above. This is a great example of what a late war Luftwaffe Focke Wulf Dora should look like. I have seen some original war time pictures of this very same aircraft and you have done a great job with it. It looks just like the real deal.
I’m equally impressed with the captured bird in the background.
I have this very same kit in the stash and have plans to build it someday. When I get around to that, I hope mine will look half as good as yours does.
I’m definitely going to click on several of the various like buttons.
Well done my friend.
Thanks Louis.
This was a challenge. What's in the pictures is my second attempt. The 82 and 83 were hard to tell apart so wiped off all the paint and tried again. The Squadron profile mentioned light gray on wings so sprayed that followed by the Ammo light green. Then the 83 and 81.
Excellent result, David!
A fantastic looking Dora!
Thank you Spiros.
Superbly done, David @kahu
A fine looking Dora.
Thank you John pretty happy with the result. Though a part of me still wants to weather it.
Nice work, David
Thanks Gary.
