Airfix Consolidated Liberator 24H 1/72
This was a kit i was looking forward to building as soon as it was announced. It boasts great detail and the fit is great overall. As for the build, i wanted to emphasize preshading a lot this time and i worked with oil colors extensively. Another thing that i did for the first time was sanding down the entire plane after painting it with 6000 and 8000 sanding paper to give a matte and worn look.
Painted with AK Interactive acrylics, Vallejo matte coat and W&N oil colors. I used a CT scale modell mask. This one is a tailsitter without sufficient weight, the ladder provided will help too.
All in all it took me about three months to finish it. One sprue was seriously shot but Airfix were fairly quick to replace it. One engine still boasts a hole 🙂
She's a beauty Felix! Great job on the build and the finish looks "shot on!"
Thanks a lot, Bob @v1pro! Appreciate it - she would look great next to your fortress!
Great looking Liberator, Felix!
You did an excellent job on the worn look of the aircraft, very convincing.
What exactly do you mean with the fact that “one sprue was seriously shot”?
@fxrob
Dear Alfred @alfred
Thanks a lot for your kind feedback. When i got the kit, one sprue was completely damaged:

I had to get a replacement from Airfix, however i did not see that an engine cowling was damaged too, so i had to fix that with AK putty later on.
Oh I see. Well you did a good job on cowling then, as I did not notice any damage at all. đź‘Ť
Great looking model, Felix (@fxrob), with a very striking paint scheme. Well done.
Thank you very much, George @gblair. I greatly appreciated all your feedback and advice during the build!
Wow, Felix @fxrob , this turned out fantastic. It’s great looking. Nice work done building & painting ! A++ workmanship .
Thank you, Jay @ssgt! Really appreciated! It was great fun building this kit.
Really nice work, Felix. I love the weathered look of the OD, especially in overhead shots where the panels are so varied in shade and tone. Very realistic. The decal work also looks very clean.
Thanks a lot, Colin @coling! I put a lot of work into preshading and it was great fun.
An absolute beauty, Felix @fxrob
The worn effect turned out perfectly.
Still looking for a decent Liberator myself and your build inspired me to get this Airfix one.
Thanks a lot, John @johnb. Go get the kit, it's a pleasure. They will release new schemes later this year. Thanks for sharing your thoughts in the build thread!
Excellent Liberator, Felix!
Your build thread was a joy to follow!
Congratulations!
Thank you for following along, Spiros @fiveten. That was great fun!
Great job, Felix.
Thank you, John @j-healy!
Well done, Felix. Like the worn look.
Thank you very much, Gary @gwskat! Glad you like it.
Fantastic stuff.
You may have persuaded me to get this one nearer to the top of my to do list.
Thanks, Alistair @alistairfgauld! It is a great kit. Just make sure the superchargers under the engines are placed before you glue the engine cowlings on, as they go in under them 🙂
Finish and detail belies its size Felix. Great results đź‘Ť
Thank you very much, Guy @thom. Building this plane was lots of fun but i really struggled with finding a good angle for my camera! It's big!
Great! Do You can show photos that You fix hole in engine? Did You use stencils inside front turret?
Dear Bernard @listen, yes i did add the stencils. That decal was actually delicate! The engine is ok but i could have done more🙂

Some nice paintwork on this! Well done.
Thanks a lot Greg @gkittinger!
Great finish and paint work. So you preshaded with oil (brushed?) then did OD in acrylic? Looks fantastic.
Dear Mark @markhedrick, thank you very much for your feedback! I primed with black, then did a lot of mottling with white by using a stencil mask. After that i put down the main colors and added a glossy varnish. After the decals had dried i added an oil wash, let it dry for a couple days and finally sanded everything down with 6000/8000 grit. The last step was a matte varnish.
