Eduard Bf 109G-10 Mtt.Regensburg Weekend Kit #84168
A really nice kit except for the decals, they fought me all the way. I think these are at the change-over when Eduard changed the decals to a peal off film.I learned the hard way when I started with the swastikas. They grabbed like frightened limpets to a rock. I flooded the areas with water until I got them within a few degrees of where they should be and then the locked solid. With the remaining decals, I flooded the area with setting solution and then got the decals in position...almost...until they locked up. Eduard may have added extra glue on these, I dunno. All details were painted with Tamiya paints and the RLM76 was sprayed with Vallejo Model Air 71.046 Pale Grey Blue. This was their first version and have now changed to a new number and name. Aerial by Uschi Van der Rosen. I wanted to sag it as per photos but it kinked up on me so I tightened it. Note the right inner flap is a replacement with RLM74/75 camo
Enjoyable to see a 109 in that monochromatic scheme - not often done. Nice work on this.
Thank you
Nice work, George. Clean finish and no silvering on the decals. Restrained weathering. I have never seen this particular late model 109 built before. The all grey scheme looks like a high altitude finish. I was interested to read about your experience with peel-off film decals. I have an expensive set of these for a 1/32 F-16 - some really big decals. It seems they might resist being moved around and require extra care. Can such decals be laid down without setting solution underneath, or maybe something mild like Micro Set?
Thanks Colin (@coling). I did use Micro Set for some and water under the numbers as they would be irreplaceable. Even still, I had about 30 seconds of working time before they locked up
OK. 30 seconds. That's good to know, as is the use of Micro Set. The irreplaceable nature of some markings is my issue too. Thanks for the info.
@coling It may have been a one off regarding the decals. I haven't read anyone else having the decal issues. Even the tiny W.Nr. on the fin gave me grief. Try a replaceable decal on your sheet first. Good luck
Excellent Gustav, George! Those decals fought you hard but the end result is excellent!
Thank you very much Spiros
She's a beauty.
Beautiful scheme.
Thank you
A very visually interesting scheme. Nice!
Thank you
A real gem, George @blackadder57
Glad you won the fight with the decals, all looks great now.
Thanks, John
That’s really cool, George. A super lo-vis 109.
...and thank you, John
Very Cool! Was this one of the Mosquito hunting 109 night fighters?
Thank you @carel Yes it was. Somewhere in my stash I also have decals for captured "White 44"
Very nice!
Thank you
