Nieuport 16C 1/32 Amodel "The Great War" group build.
The aircraft depicted in this build is the Nieuport 16C serial No. A134 as allocated to Capt. Albert Ball VC.
Ball rigged the aircraft to fly tail heavy so that it would fly "hand off" whilst he reloaded the Lewis gun, he also re-arranged the cockpit to suit his tastes.
The kit includes the Le Pieur rockets which were for downing balloons, sadly Ball missed but he did find that when fired at enemy aircraft formations it caused panic and enabled him to to down a target with his Lewis gun.
It is recorded that 2nd Lt. A. Walters whilst on a sortie with Ball actually hit a LVG with one of his rockets and caused it to crash in flames. Maybe this was the first air to air missile strike?
The kit is fairly basic as far as detail goes and the fit of parts could be better, but all up a fun build. The full build is in the "The Great War" group.
Superb result, Ian! Excellent build thread too!
