Tamiya Honda Turbo CX500 Engine 1/6th
In less than 3 and a half years I have done many motorcycle Engines, 44 of them to be exact, but I have never built one like this.
It was a good build until I got to the turbocharger pipes and tubes. UGH. But now I know what to do when I build the 1/12th bike.
I addition to the attention to most details while cleaning out the garage I found many pieces of scrap wood my late husband had saved. I found a piece of Planck walnut and decided to replace the black plastic bags with it. I cut angles on the front and back, sanded it down and stained it.
I bought the 1/12th bike that the engine is for and realized the decals weren't in there :(. So I bought another kit, and then found the decals to the first kit but they are not in the best of shape…..so i may have another weathered build in the works 🙂
Although still reeling from the last 4 months, it was good, albeit sad, to get back to modeling. I have to no of kits in the works but uncooperative weather so we will see.
Thanks for looking
Great build and nice presentation, Cricket, the turbocharger pipes and tubes look very realistic from where I’m sitting, looking forward to the 1/12 models to go with it.
@chinesegeorge thanks George i think I wil weather one as I had so much fun doing the Kawasaki :0
Cricket (@bikequeen),
The header photo looks better than the box top photo for the kit. Some strong work worthy of the gold. Professional comes to mind. The Walnut base adds a warmth and a natural feeling to the appeal of this build. It all works. Congratulations on the build and the photos. You have something to write home about and be proud of.
@stephen-w-towle Thank you Stephen I had a wild haid about he base better than this one that came with it 🙂

Excellent build and really great result, Cricket!
@fiveten thank you Spiros it’s hard getting back into the swing of things 🙁
I'm sorry for your loss Cricket. I am glad that you can still do great work. I didn't know that a two cylinder engine could be turbocharged. It took me a while find it amongst everything.
@jsummerford Thank you John, it’s rough and still raw, but I try. Yeah the engine was different now to build the bikes 🙂
Really wonderful, Cricket @bikequeen
The way you have it on display using this piece of wood is fantastic.
Well done.
@johnb Thanks John, I liked the wood myself and now that I clear out the garage I can actually use the tools pout there to make nice things 🙂
I'm glad you can find some relief with our hobby... the work you've done here is wonderful. Compliments
@dap068 Thank you Davide as I have said it’s different and will take awhile to get back into the swing of things but I will give it my best! I have a stash if GREAT kits to work through. Appreciate the kind words
That's a beauty, Cricket. Well done!
@gwskat Thank you Gary! 🙂
That's awesome. Great job.
@paulwoodyvanacker thak you Paul, it was a good diversion
Nice job as usual! But I do prefer when you wrap the rest of the bike around it. 🙂
@dion-dunn thanks Dion, wrap around bikes are in the house and in the queue 🙂
Base sets it off well
@johnaitken Thanks John, I liked it too, wasn’t sure the sticker would stick to it but I let the stain set for 2 days then hit it with 000 steel wool and they stuck fine
This is a really cool build!
Who doesn’t like a turbo..
I really like the way you’ve displayed it also.
I always say the engines on the 1/12 and 1/24 kits can be a model within themselves.
Awesome work.
@richardmcstay48gmail-com Yeah I bet it kicked A$$ :). There are pretty simple kits but not being surrounded by the bike attention to detail is a must, this one wasnt to bad but could have been better, thank you for your comments Richard
That is really beautiful, Cricket @bikequeen! 👍 Super work on that engine and the base! 👏
Ya know, I just thought to ask, are you a motorcycle rider as well? 🤔
@garybrantley Thank you Gary, i had 2 bikes in my life, I got rid of them quickly or i surely would have been killed on them. I never thought to build bikes, I had a Proton Ducati in my stash a long long time but never built it because I didn't want to ruin it. I Finally got the nerve to do it and it was junk. A few years later I bought a Tamiya Ducati and the rest is history 😉
Great job Cricket. Nice to see you at the bench.
@coondog! Hey Matt! Slow but sure….i got some bikes to show you 🙂
Looks like the real dealwdeal. Nice to see you back in action, Cricket @bikequeen. Good therapy isn’t it?
@eb801 Hi Eric, sorry for the delay thank you for your comments, it’s good to be building again albeit bittersweet
Another great build Cricket, the base sets it off just right.
@firelockg. Thank you Ian
