Ducati 916 Tamiya kit #14068 1/12th
I bought this kit with about 6 others 2 years ago, I thought it was one I didn't have. Turned out this was the second motorcycle model I ever built. The first being the Ducati 1199, both done 3 years and 4 months ago. They started my addiction to scale model motorcycles. And this 916 is my 30th 1/12th motorcycle model. In addition to several 1/6th.
Seeing the first one was red I decided to build this black (with some artistic license thrown in). I had hoped it would get me back into building after all the trauma of the last 7 months.
When I first started it I couldn't get into it, but as it starting coming together things gelled and I like the result.
A lot was added to it compared to the first one I built as I learned a lot of tricks in the last 3 years.
And as an added bonus both bikes together
A month ago I learned I had lost a long time internet modeling friend of 30 years, he taught me a lot over the years and I did him. So this bike is dedicated to my late husband and and my friend. God speed guys! I miss you both.
So here it is the 30th 1/12th in the fleet.
Enjoy
Most excellent results, Cricket! That's really cool that you now have two complimentary builds, the red and black match the shared red so well.
I'm curious, did you do anything special with the brake rotors to get the turned metal look? Especially the rear..
@pb_legend HA! First i drilled out the holes on the rotors, then sprayed them with gloss black, masked the center and then sprayed the out side with Tamiya Metallic Silver…thats it…nothin magical : )
Thank you for the compliments : )
Very nice, Cricket (@bikequeen). The detail and finish on this bike is outstanding. I am still amazed at how cool the various metallic hues look. The different colors on the two bikes make them look very different, even though they are the same bike. It has been fun following your build and watching this one come together. Well done.
@gblair well thank you George I appreciate that, makes me want to build more : )
Beauty Ducati, Cricket! Very nice dedication.
I’d say your bike is ‘Espresso Black’ with a double sugar for an extra kick.
@georgeswork thank you sir! I appreciate that : )
Excellent Ducati, Cricket! Looking 1:1 at the outdoor pics!
And a great tribute to both your husband and your modeling friend.
@fiveten Thank you Spiros, I’m happy with it and it may have been just the project to break my modelers block : )
Ducatis look good in most colours, Cricket, but black really suits this one.
@chinesegeorge thank you George I always liked the black and gold combination, nod to Lotus : )
You did an amazing job on this Ducati, Cricket @bikequeen
Both are looking wonderful, to me that black one does have something mysterious.
A great tribute to your husband and friend.
Glad to see you can find the motivation again.
@johnb Thank you John, yeah Black and Gold are a great combo. And as I said in an earlier reply, it was a good project to break the modelers block
Very nice, Cricket. That black finish really makes it stand out...Well done!
@gwskat Thank you Gary, it may be the shot in the arm to get me going again : )
Looks like the real deal, well done Cricket!
@j-healy Thank you John, I'm happy with it…has some faults but I’m not tell anyone what they are ; )
Cricket (@bikerqueen), the header photo or the first photo in the line up is very convincing. For a second I thought it was the real deal. Ducati motorcycles look fast sitting still. Black definitely suits the bike with a little artistic license.
@stephen-w-towle. Thanks Stephen, I showed that pic to my doctor and she freaked out “Why you buy a motorcycle?” … LOL
Thank you for your comments : )
Fantastic Ducati, Cricket @bikequeen! 👍 You've got these bikes down pat, my friend! Wow. 🤩
@garybrantley Thank you GAry .. Thats why I’m the “Bike Queen”: )
That you are! 😁
😬
@ssgt Thank you Jay
Beautifully done. If I ever finish my never-ending Beaufighter project, I might just pickup one of these large scale motorcycle kits.
@gwfabian Thank you Greg, this was only 1/12 th if you really want large scale get the Tamiya 1/6th series : )
Splendid work Cricket. Looks like the real thing sitting outside. Thanks for sharing.
@coondog Hey Matt so sorry for the delay, thanks a lot I appreciate your comments
